The analogy I like is the one where your on a ship and a storm hits. You and your compatriots end up overboard. Now if you try to save others before saving yourself you are both likely to die. That is to say; Even if you want to intervene in the troubles in the world. You need to be strong enough and secure enough to do so without sacrificing your safety and security. And a democratic government unilaterally putting external issues ahead of the citizens is wrong. Also there is something to be said about core values of a nation. A commonality of the people. Especially in multiethnic nations like Canada. It is good to have a singular thing to unify diverse people. Thus the Canadian culture should be a centre point and defended. No other national group should be considered better by the government of Canada or its politicians. That’s not to say you can’t dislike policy.
