i think at this point there should be agreement between russia and ukraine

Russia's main concern is if ukraine joins NATO then this would allow US to make their military presence in ukraine and as ukraine shares a land border with russia. this would be like inviting your worst enemy to be your neighbour. In the end in a war there are no winners so the soon the dispute ends the better.
