The reason more civilians have been killed is that Hamas deliberately uses civilians as human shields, puts them in the firing line, and uses schools, hospitals, houses, and public places as command centres. They want them to be killed to save their military casualties while damaging Israel's image. These tactics can be traced back to several other militant Islamist regimes and militant organisations, including the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and ISIS. If you don't believe me, look up Hamas' agenda. Look up how they educate their children to hate Jews from birth, and that the highest thing they can aspire to is to kill themselves by killing Jews. Read their charter. I'm not going to act like the government of Israel is squeaky clean. It isn't, especially the current administration. But they do want to live, and when faced with such an irrational enemy as this, that specifically wants to kill every last one of them, to the point of using their own people as human shields, they are far, far better.
