Proponents argue that this strategy would bolster national security by minimizing the risk of potential terrorists entering the country. Enhanced screening processes, once implemented, would provide a more thorough assessment of applicants, reducing the likelihood of malicious actors gaining entry. Critics argue that such a policy might inadvertently promote discrimination by broadly categorizing individuals based on their nation of origin rather than specific, credible threat intelligence. It may strain diplomatic relations with the affected countries and potentially harm the perception of the nation enacting the ban, being seen as hostile or prejudiced towards certain international communities. Additionally, genuine refugees fleeing terrorism or persecution in their home countries might be unjustly denied safe haven.

safe harmless people often need to flee high risk countries. If they do not have a criminal record they should be welcome.
@B4GC5JJ2wks2W
They should be isolated if it is shown they are a threat and only fully let into the country once proven they aren’t a threat
@B4C9KRT3wks3W
One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch, but there should be some tight checks for all immigrants especially those determined to be high risk
@B4BF3T33wks3W
What are you defining as a high risk country ? It is individuals who may be deemed high risk based on criteria for screening no matter what country they are from. So the government many need to improve its screening processes overall.
@B49YZG33wks3W
There should be proper vetting to make sure that the immigrants entering the country are not terrorists, but there are so many people from those countries that deserve and need safety and protection
@B486HPFConservative3wks3W
We shouldn’t be opening the floodgates to anybody. We need to attract doctors, lawyers, engineers, trades people that can compliment our workforce and create a better place for Canada.
@B445BPHConservative4wks4W
Filtering Terrorists is important but banning people from those countries is discriminatory and should be illegal.
@B3YW9621mo1MO
Yes, and the border should be closed and all immigrants should be deported, even the people with citizenship, and their families.
@B3MT79L1mo1MO
I think the system should look into the background of the individual trying to immigrate, instead of making their decision based on nationality
@B37ZK3K2mos2MO
No we shouldn’t bar an entire country for the actions of internal parties afar, but should have more countermeasures to make sure it’s safe
No banned, but limited until the government improves their screening abilities. Which should be tackled by increasing funding to the facilities that process immigrants. As those facilities are very under staffed and are back logged several years.
@B3288T22mos2MO
I don't think we should necessarily ban all immigrants from hight risk countries, but rather have lots of security checks
@B2XJ5FGConservative2mos2MO
they should never be allowed he at all if they are they are watched over by security for at least 5 years minimum to ensure the saftey of the country
@B2WYH382mos2MO
depends you can still help immigrants out but box them out before they enter Canada to make sure they are not affiliated with terrorists or have connections with them or cause a threat
@B2SLJ7Y2mos2MO
They should not be banned, but a thorough review should be done of each individual before they are let into the country, with any risk being denied
@9ZNLDFL5mos5MO
they shouldnt be banned from countries if they come for a high risk place as it not their fault as to where they may have grew up
@9Z96WJWIndependent5mos5MO
The government should focus strongly on improving the ability to screen for terrorism quickly to allow real refugees safety
@9YNQFHTNew Democratic5mos5MO
If they can pass a criminal background check and ensure no ties to terrorist activity, there is no reason to deny someone just because they are from a “high risk” country.
@9WT7VJH6mos6MO
The government should do very extensive physicological tests to ensure they are not terrorists. And allow all those who pass.
@9RGCB9P9mos9MO
Not banned, but ensure they aren’t coming to Canada prior to this being done.
@9JQ8T5J1yr1Y
No, but ensure they pass the background checks & do not have a history of committing serious crimes.
@9HYTRSF1yr1Y
Keep a close eye on them if they are to stay in Canada
Yes and no, improve facilities to ensure maximum safety by allowing thoroughly checked individuals in
@B2KXFY83mos3MO
Yes, if their beliefs and values do not match our values in Canada they should be banned from here aka India and any Muslim country at the moment.
@B2HMZCY3mos3MO
Terrorism is not my concern- it is the government allowing those from foreign nations to come to Canada and provide them with exponentially more resources, opportunities, and support in comparison to Canadian born citizens. There are COUNTLESS issues and concerns when it comes to immigration policies, and as much as Canada as thrived upon being a melting pot of nationalities and cultures - the current state - or lack thereof - is significantly contributing to the decline of our economy and opportunities for Canadian born citizens. AMONG COUNTLESS OTHER ISSUES
@B2BMK7B3mos3MO
No, but improve vetting & ensure that new immigrants, while still respecting their cultural heritage & ensuring diversity, adapt to contemporary western liberal values.
@B2BK8ZT3mos3MO
Yes but small numbers of legitimate, verifiable refugees should still be allowed from these countries.
@B2B9S693mos3MO
no, unless there a convited fellon, if they wer previously in jail and is out and is living a better life they should come.
@B2B8RL43mos3MO
as they could be looking for asylum from that country and when that happens there are way too many people to be properly checked. most immigrants should go through the terrorist screening though regardless of the country they come from.
@B28W4JG3mos3MO
It depends on the situation; for instance if they are fleeing because their country goes against their rights and freedoms
@B24NBJL4mos4MO
Yes, but asylum should be granted to them in a sanctioned off area that provides all basic human rights while the screening is being done.
@9RZPX678mos8MO
given that we are currently charging people who gained citizenship for plotting an attack with supposed ties to ISIS, yes there should be stricter screening.
@9P8NRFMNew Democratic 10mos10MO
No, as individuals who apply for immigration into Canada from high-risk countries may be doing so for their own safety.
@9MC4BQL11mos11MO
I'm pretty sure if we wanted to know everything on a person nowadays we could. You guys got that covered. We work with the US on intelligence. Come on now.
@B34WY582mos2MO
Similarly to the last question, it really depends on the specific situations, and also depends on the specific high risk country.
@B3FWKNX2mos2MO
Immigrants should not be banned from entering the country, but it should become more strict until the government improves its ability to screen out potential terrorists
@B4QR7G23 days3D
They shouldn't be banned from entering the country however, they still should run background checks on the people to ensure that they AREN'T potential terrorists.
@B34YX9N2mos2MO
Yes, as long as the individuals who are screened face no sort of human failure such as prejudice or discrimination due to stereotyping
