I believe in a world where we support individual's autonomy and recognize that when people have the ability to make choices for themselves, they are more likely to access support networks that affirm their lives. Decriminalizing drug use keeps people safe and encourages people to make informed decisions. I think that often Portugal is referenced for this point, as when the country decriminalized drug use, the amount of individuals who use substances went down. This was due to the focus on citizens accessing social supports for addictions and holistic welfare. Harm reduction and reducing barriers saves lives.
