I have not done adequate research to support my opinion- but I feel confident that there are far better ways to spend federal money than on the continued support to someone who has committed a crime where the death penalty is an option.

Despite the grim reality that 2.3% to 5% of prisoners in the United States are estimated to be innocent, proponents contend that the death penalty remains a necessary tool for addressing the most heinous crimes. Since 1989, over 2,800 individuals have been exonerated, shedding light on the prevalence of wrongful convictions, yet this figure represents a small fraction of the total incarcerated population

I think that the death penalty is a Neanderthal way of looking at people who are obviously very unwell, and while rehabilitation might not be an option, death shouldn’t be considered.
