If they just stole something like a video game from a store, I would not care if they ran for office. If it is something more serious like assault, maybe I would still be a bit lenient if it happen a really long time ago(ten+ years ago) since there is a decent chance they changed for the better in that time. If the crime is something extreme like murder or sexual misconduct, I don't think they should be allowed to run for office.
