Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has vowed to place a two-year ban on foreign homebuyers if re-elected, in a bid to address housing affordability in Canada. The nation's housing market has soared during the coronavirus pandemic, up 16 percent year-over-year, according to the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA). The Liberal Party is one of three major parties focused on this central issue.

@9386V95New Democratic3yrs3Y
Yes unless it's their primary residence.
@8VW4NXL4yrs4Y
Yes, and implement foreign buyer and vacancy taxes
@9YNQFHTNew Democratic5mos5MO
Yes, unless the home they are purchasing is for their own personal residence, not for a rental/income property.
@9TT4ZFPNew Democratic7mos7MO
of course NO! because the Canadian public can have 2 or three houses and more people are continuously coming in Canada so it might have space for them for leaving and if person buy a home they can give basement to someone for leaving and the apartment will also become empty
@9TDFHRV7mos7MO
Yes, but only if they are buying homes for the purpose of profiting (renovating and selling, or renting/leasing)
@9RCJ67TNew Democratic9mos9MO
Foreigners should only be banned from buying homes in Canada if they are intended to be used as a rental property.
After citizenship, they should be subjected to the same regulations and restrictions as the rest of canadians.
@9FJ4P26New Democratic2yrs2Y
If they have permanent residence then no
@9FH4WZJNew Democratic2yrs2Y
If they are unsure of how long they are staying; if they intend to stay for a longer period of time, then they should be able to buy a house as soon as possible.
@9DX2QRT2yrs2Y
Prevent corporations from mass purchasing of properties
@9B2GW2FNew Democratic2yrs2Y

@9FMPCV82yrs2Y

@9FDDCHC2yrs2Y
No, but they must be in the residence for at least 8 months every year or 4 months after actively living in the residence for 24 months
@9FCLCSDNew Democratic2yrs2Y
only if they are preventing Canadians from buying houses
@8VPFBWV4yrs4Y
I think it depends on the situation. What are their intentions. Living in the bought home? or using it for real estate business purposes. Not banned but focus on their intent
@9B27NCQNew Democratic2yrs2Y
Ban people who don’t live here
@99S7KGD2yrs2Y

@95J425Q3yrs3Y
yes, unless it is their own private residence
@95D8QLTNew Democratic3yrs3Y
If it's to rent out, no. But if it's because they need a place to stay, of course
@95B8G6TNew Democratic3yrs3Y
Yes, but only if it will not become their primary residence
@9536WQM3yrs3Y
there should be a stricter requirement for anyone who buys/owns multiple houses. no more than "X" limit or other restriction on obtaining multiple houses, regardless of their Nationality.
@93KS3GS3yrs3Y
No, but foreign property owners should be limited in how many homes they can buy and should be heavily taxed whether the property is vacant or not. Foreign corporations should not be allowed to buy residential properties in Canada at all.
I feel like it really depends. As you don't want rich foreigners buying all the houses as a way to preserve their money and sell it later. But you don't want foreigners who are trying to move here to be homeless for two years unless this doesn't apply to apartments and such.
@9366D3XNew Democratic3yrs3Y
No, only citizens and permanent residents should be allowed to buy Canadian real estate.
@92YXZHNNew Democratic3yrs3Y

@92HBGRBNew Democratic3yrs3Y

They should be allowed to purchase homes if there are paying taxes to the federal government
@92BVCWWNew Democratic3yrs3Y
May be allowed if primary residence
@8Z3RCJSNew Democratic3yrs3Y
Only if it is NOT their primary residence, because then they obviously see it as an investment.
@8Z3DJKY3yrs3Y
Yes, but only for more than one property.
@8YWZMK23yrs3Y
Foreigners who need the home to live in should be allowed to, but not investors looking to flip homes.
@8Y8MGXR3yrs3Y
Yes, unless they intend on permanently living here.
@8WPK5B7New Democratic3yrs3Y
Yes, but only if isn't their primary residence
@8WDFBB6New Democratic4yrs4Y
no, they need a place to stay
@8W2MWPSNew Democratic4yrs4Y
No, but non-residents should be prevented from renting out or leasing out property that they own in Canada.
@8VTQ955New Democratic4yrs4Y
Foriengers should live and continue to live on the property and in the country’s
@8VT5H4PNew Democratic4yrs4Y
No, but not more than one house per 2 year
@8VSQ86M4yrs4Y
They should be permitted to only buy one house
@8VQ29ZWNew Democratic4yrs4Y
If they are immigrating into our country, no they should not be banned from buying a home. If they have no intentions of staying here for school or work, then yes.
@8VPXPGTNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Yes, only if they are leaving the house vacant or not residing in Canada.
@8VP7YFTNew Democratic4yrs4Y

@8VNKJJC4yrs4Y

@8VMYV48New Democratic4yrs4Y
Maybe……🧐 if they intend to live in the home but if not then no.
@8VMXKNFNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Nobody except Canadian citizens should be able to own houses in Canada.
@8VMKSK2New Democratic4yrs4Y
Depends on the purpose of purchasing
@8VMB6WPNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Vigorous background checks have to be made for foreigner buyers. If a person is buying a vacation property for their own use then that's fine. If a foreigner is buying multiple complexes for the sole purpose of profit (while driving up value prices), there has to be a limit placed on those individuals.
@8VLR2PM4yrs4Y
Owner occupied only. No investment properties
@8VKQM8HNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Yes, but only foreign non-residents
@8VKL72J4yrs4Y
Yes, but only if they are non-residents
@8VKKSCLNew Democratic4yrs4Y
I don’t think anyone should be banned from buying a home in Canada. It just depends on the person’s personal situation and family life. I think a background check should be enacted to make sure that the person living in Canada is legally allowed to stay in the country and they have a clean history.
@8VK3MMPNew Democratic4yrs4Y
No, but should be limited to only one primary residence
@8VJK25RNew Democratic4yrs4Y
No, as long as Canadian residents are prioritized first and foremost
@8VJ4WL8New Democratic4yrs4Y
Ban foreign ownership forever.
@8VHP7MZNew Democratic4yrs4Y
No, unless they have a high net worth/income.
@8VHN27ZNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Only if they’re buying to rent it out and make it overpriced. You should only be able to buy a house to live in, where you live.
@8VHM4PKNew Democratic4yrs4Y
They should not be banned, but they should not be paying more than a house is worth causing prices to go up. Canadians need affordable housing, it is the prices that need to be fixed, not the buying.
@9CS3LQGNew Democratic2yrs2Y
Yes, but not if it is to be used as a primary residence.
@9CB682JNew Democratic2yrs2Y

@997CMSM2yrs2Y
Ban home ownership for anyone if they aren't living in the homes they own a significant portion of the time.
@98XS9MNNew Democratic2yrs2Y
No, but there should be more restrictions on how many properties an individual or company can buy.

@98THJ8JConservative2yrs2Y
only for people not living in canada
@98SL5S5New Democratic2yrs2Y

@98N43R2New Democratic2yrs2Y
