Military-grade protective equipment: yes, keep officers safe. Military-grade weaponry and tactics: no, this is entirely unnecessary.

 @B49LKNYfrom Alberta  answered…3wks3W

define military grade equipment, because i own "military grade equipment" i think that we as canadians should have better access to higher grade equipment, due to most of our military tech being outdated as it is (we still use ww2 handguns as standard issue)

 @9H6GJSNfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

I believe it would be nice for the police departments to have such upgrades but instead of purchasing new weapons do something like the US in which old/ no longer needed weapons are passed down to PDs which is beneficial instead of purchasing or wasting old equipment. However, ensure that these officers are receiving the proper training and handling of these equipment.

 @9FR4Q6CRhinocerosfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only if they have the proper training on how and when to use the equipment, and only allowing the police to use it in extreme situations.

 @9FPRCRKfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9FKWVLVfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, and there should be much more extensive training to become a police officer

 @9FB5ZM9Libertarianfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but with strict training on how to use and to use and only in extreme situations

 @9CBTBW3from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, short of a major uprising this would constitute a major breach of the mandate to protect and serve.

 @9MMYRQ7from Alberta  answered…11mos11MO

It depends on the situation. If there is a shooting and they need military grade equipment, then yes, but if not no.,

 @9F5KMPVfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, only services who are formally trained to use military grade equipment should use military equipment.

 @9F47QBXfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, though it should be used in extreme situations and with fairly strict training on how and when to use said military equipment.

 @9F3BQD8from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

 @96NWXMBfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, because the police will rarely get to that point with the current rules.

 @96GB6RXfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Depends on if they are the only ones available and its an extreme situation.

 @96D29WQfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

they are currently having other teams like a bomber squad and some other stuff so they dont need to have someone else to be able to use it so no they dont need to since they are mainly used for all these other things and there is also other stuff like delta squad

 @9697872from Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only in response to extreme situations and subject to judicial review with sanctions against officers who issued the order to use such equipment unnecessarily

 @95MBLMXLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95JY6QJfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

yes. it would stop the passing of officers becuase their plate carriers only hold up to 9mm,45acp, and many others, and do not hold up to standerd rifle rounds

 @95D9LYKfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

I think that only certain police department should be able to use military grade equipment. Certain areas have little to no crime so there is no point in having military grade equipment in those areas.

The police should only have access to the same equipment/weapons that we civilians are legally allowed to have

 @8YVY7D5from Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes but only after the police go through a professional screening to see if they are fit for the job

 @8VCNBVMPeople’sfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VBTYQ9Conservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, with more strict training on when to use them. And the citizenry who are law abiding should be allowed to concealed carry and use their firearms to protect themselves with less strict consequences against self defence that can't be proven as strongly. Innocent unless proven guilty. Public owned body cams should be allowed anywhere and everywhere and police body cams must be mandatory.

 @8QFQGNXfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only in extreme situations and with proper training on how and when to use equipment

 @8QBY2Q5from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Only in extreme situations and if they used it otherwise especially on PIPOC they should go to jail for at least 10 years.

 @8PLFY9Dfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, only the military should be using that kind of equipment because misuse is bound to happen even with highly trained proffessionals

 @8PGCQR4from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Police should be reformed to handle fragile situations not given more guns

 @9C4N53Jfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes but only under the circumstances of others using weaponry that the police department also don't regularly carry on hand or station.

 @9BD6B4Vfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only to officers whole have received extensive (years) training both on the use of the equipment, but also in negotiation, conflict resolution, and other verbal tactics that could be used to defuse the situation, AND only in response to extreme situations

 @9B7KNG2from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

 @99LHJQWfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

if they need military equitment then the militray would be there right?

 @99C5LNMfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

when needed, yes because the major gangs have equiptment that out odes police already

 @98ZZ767from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

depending on the situation they can use it but they need proper training and permission but they can not just go around carrying miltary guns

 @98YRBP7from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Only in extremely dangerous situations when others are at risk after giving extensive training to the officers

 @98XL734from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe the police should have access to military grade equipment as they are another service to the public like the military. However, this equipment would be kept safe with only available use in extreme situations. That and only rifles and such, no tanks.

 @98Q25VYfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

If they can have it the private citizen should have access as well. Good gun rights ensure that should a tyrannical power can never overtake the Nation

 @97YPT6Yfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

The police force should have access to the same equipment the citizen has access to.

 @97JDDRJfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

yes but only in extreme situations where they are trained on how to use them

 @956MKLTfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

If necessary yes like in a hostage situation or something but not just for robbery or somthing

 @967V2B4from Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

 @B4SCGTQfrom Alberta  answered…50mins50m

Police currently have better grade equipment than the Military. "Military grade" is garbage and underfunded

 @9FM6JVVfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

 @B4Q6CJ6Conservativefrom Alberta  answered…3 days3D

Yes, but only certain pieces of equipment and only in response to drastic circumstances through specific groups, example Tac Team, RCMP ERT, SWAT Ect.

 @8ZNZPXWfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Of course but only if they are using it on a civilian in a large group of people who have all done nothing wrong (Using an atomic bomb shooter of course)
