This is a good idea, but we should not get rid of the police completely. We should be helping vulnerable people to not gravitate towards criminal activity in the first place and help them get support.

 @8ZP5XPN from New Hampshire  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding should be moved away from militaristic deployment and towards training and education.

 @3YCKLNHanswered…4yrs4Y

Yes and reduce the duties of police to the smallest, most necessary subset of law enforcement.

 @6WQYBY3 from Idaho  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes. By eliminating victimless crimes from the responsibilities of the police, Law Enforcement can draw down and the newly available resources can be used at community discretion.

 @4N8THPVanswered…5yrs5Y

Yes, if that is what the community decides. End federal funding for local police departments.

 @4FPWLYPanswered…5yrs5Y

No. Police should be privatized, and demilitarized. Laws should also be repealed to prevent more possible deadly encounters.

 @52P5M5Sanswered…5yrs5Y

In theory this could work, however I'm more in favor of and increase in funding and better training. In some scenarios the police force may be too corrupt and may need to be completely disbanded and rebuilt.

 @4LPK7XYanswered…4yrs4Y

Empower police departments to resource subject matter experts in matters of de-escalation training, community engagement, and focus on supporting low-income communities.

 @2MSVHL2answered…4yrs4Y

We should have more privatized funding, local funding, stop militarizing the police. Get them better training and maybe even some mental help on staff.

 @593CCZ5answered…4yrs4Y

Until the war on drugs ends, police will be a military type force. They have been thrust into this role by government. We should end the war on drugs and then demilitarize the police forces, to have them return to their conducting themselves as they did in the past (protect/serve).

 @3JZS28Tanswered…5yrs5Y

Regardless, all government bodies funded by theft should be abolished, including both police and social/community programs.

 @2JKJDDZanswered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only for non criminal related matters like traffic violations and mental health services

 @55RTR4Banswered…5yrs5Y

No, direct police departments to operate social- & community-based programs

 @2K396D2answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and The Police should be absorbed into the Sheriff's office, as the Sheriff answers to the people.

 @2K396D2answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, and The Police should be absorbed into the Sheriff's department, as the Sheriff answers to the people.

 @84JHJXZ from GU  answered…4yrs4Y

No, social and community-based programs should receive funding from individual citizens. Also, local police departments should reallocate funds for training instead of equipment.

 @5GHSCDS from Minnesota  answered…5yrs5Y

 @3GRHFK6answered…4yrs4Y

This should be determined on a case-by-case basis. There should be budgetary oversight of police departments and it may make sense to shift funding to mental institutions.

 @38LNC72answered…5yrs5Y

Police should be paid more and better trained AND there should be increased funding to social and community based programs to better deal with situations involving drugs, mental health, or other problems that don't require force/guns that police deploy.

 @2HN4HSXanswered…5yrs5Y

Transfer all funding and policing duties to the elected sheriff's department.

 @5VW46HK from Arizona  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase training for police departments, but also provide funding for social and community based programs.

 @7BMP7N5 from Maine  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but raise the standards of racial sensitive and education for police officers as a whole

 @84N8BY4 from Utah  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but police training needs to improve to make deadly force a last resort.

 @89CY647 from Arizona  answered…5yrs5Y

  @8DN4WYN from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, and provide a call option other than 911 to replace police with unarmed community based responders for non-violent calls, make the police obtain insurance, end qualified immunity and no knock raids, etc..

 @8GDCWLZ from Illinois  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, police should be community oriented and only respond to violent crimes.

 @8GYCXW3 from Florida  answered…5yrs5Y

No, their funding should be lowered and taxes that support them should be lowered

 @8HC6XWC from Ohio  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but redirect only a portion of funding to social and community-based programs.

 @8LPQ75J from Missouri  answered…4yrs4Y

they should be put though more training so that they can can an undestanding of a multitude of situation,such as mentaly disturbed people

 @8MCVG8W from Michigan  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but expand social work programs and funding for mental health professionals to accompany or replace police on mental health and domestic violence calls.

 @8R6BDQ6answered…4yrs4Y

No, but policing needs reforms to reduce force usage and militarization.

 @8R7N6V4 from Mississippi  answered…4yrs4Y

The militarization of the police needs to end. End qualified immunity and civil asset forfeiture.

  @8RJ2TQK from Minnesota  answered…4yrs4Y

 @GreatPondG from Indiana  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8XH4JKP from Missouri  answered…3yrs3Y

Police should get better training rather than just using brute force. they should be better trained in dealing with situations and how to not let personal beliefs get in the way of their job.

 @5GHSCDS from Minnesota  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8ZCJJ3R from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, the police should be de-militarized and better trained in non-violent confrontations and use of deadly force.
