Not all of the funding but there should be more going to social and community based programs and less to the police
@B386JBW 2mos2MO
Over policing doesn’t stop crime or fix the crime rate. There are issues with immigration, the judicial system ect. This is an important issue, but it’s more complex than the answers provide
@B2SS7BF2mos2MO
Add funding for social programs, to reduce crime. Then more funding can be redirected from police services
@B2LZCJT3mos3MO
The current police force is undereducated and quick to violence. Check the background and psych of the police officers in training and weave them out. Provide more education to the police officers.
@9XLTZWF6mos6MO
Crime prevention should just be refocusing and rehabilitated, it is less about budgeting and more about police prioritizing helping the community than patroling it.
@nt24216mos6MO
More mental health workers for non-violent calls (crisis teams/addictions outreach workers), but unsure about police funding. These workers should be able to take non-violent people to the psych ER without the person needing to go in the back of the police car.

I don't think we need to defund the police in order to fix social communities. I think we need to train out departments better
@9K53PFY1yr1Y
There should be more funding for the police to have crisis intervention departments who respond calls involved with mental health crises who also have separate uniforms and are unarmed but still have restraint and deescalation training. This team should consist of social workers and psychotherapists as well as other types of crisis intervention type professions.
@9FKGKD42yrs2Y
Police departments should be funded according to the area of the police station (crime rates, etc)
@9FF3JDK2yrs2Y
No, more funding should be invested to reform the structure and become more community-oriented.
@955L8YL3yrs3Y
Police are needed to prevent chaos, but training and social community based programs are also needed. An interdisceplinary approach is viable when training and funding is properly assigned.
@92WJS3W3yrs3Y
For every $ given to police equal to the social and health - and they should cooperate in there shared role to take care of citizens
@92GRS2N3yrs3Y
We need to strike the balance between community based responders and police training
@8YBWX423yrs3Y
Provide police with funding to deal with social issues
@8XZYC7Y3yrs3Y
Yes, but let the provinces decide how to enforce these community programs. The more people are allowed to engage in their own government the more self governance and thus the more freedom we have
@8VV6PWGNew Democratic4yrs4Y
The police should still be funded but there should be room to fund social and community based programs for non violent calls
I think the funding could be lowered and put towards community and social based groups but the police should still be funded.
@8VKQFP74yrs4Y
Funding should be directed to both policing and community
@8V5GZTL4yrs4Y
No, It should be primarily focused on the screening of potential officers backgrounds, training, psychological tests, etc...
@8V2T4LC4yrs4Y
Yes, increase funding for other services so that police don't have to respond all the time
Not entirely, but some of it should be diverted to those programs.
@8TWGJ4BNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Yes, part of police funding should be allocated to social & community based programs based on regional requirements, supervised by non-police leadership.
@8TW48D74yrs4Y
Yes, but also increase training and regular internal investigations into departments
@8TPDHN84yrs4Y
There should be salaries for different types of policing - traffic vs beat cops for example and some money should be diverted for social workers
@8TBPL9L4yrs4Y
Funding should go to mandatory training and a degree in order to be an officer, or else go towards social services that will aid the community and decrease crime rates through aiding citizens
@8T9ZZM24yrs4Y
Neither. Just keep the police doing what they do, but don't increase funding.
@8SN9TV44yrs4Y
Decrease budget ,by 20 % to social programs in the communityp
@8SGK9N74yrs4Y
Some funding can be allocated to other things but there should be funding for the police. And there should be investments in police reform and policy reviews within criminal justice.
@8RBJRJW4yrs4Y
they have what they need.
@8Q8VD7N4yrs4Y
I think we have to make the laws for police officers more strict
Don't abolish or defund the police but make a system where non-violent crimes are handled by social experts and programs.
Funding should be 50/50 between local police departments and social/community based programs
maybe part of the funds, but we still need the police force
@98CQBLH2yrs2Y
Yes, but put it towards helping understand culture and to not be racist.
@8ZHLLS73yrs3Y
No, give funds to other things like UNIVERSITY TUITION CAPS PLS
@97NRTW82yrs2Y
Increase funding and training for police departments. Have social programs in place that are catered specifically towards areas that need or want them.
