we need the police, and if we can't figure out how we can balance the police funding and the funding of other programs, thinking that abolishing the police is a good idea is insane.

Urban and rural need two different approaches. Urban policing should defund some programs to fund some social programs. Rurally we need more police.

Community programs are good and something we should strive for but not at the cost of defunding local police

I think that some resources should be redirected within departments to assist with training officers to deal with social issues and non-violent offenders better.

This should be a blended approach. Increase social programs but not at the cost of police, until the benefits have taken effect

The crime in canada isnt really gta 5 bad so why not use a small chunk of that to use on programs, were not fighting the avengers.

 @95RPTVRLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding for police should stay but funding needs to be available for social and community programs. Police should work with social workers.

 @93NRKCFLibertarianfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

No. I would first want more funding and training for police while also providing funding for social and community based programs. If within 5-10 years the social and community based programs are working to reduce crime, then we can dial back the funding and training for police.

 @8VVZDF2from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

reduce funding for police and increase by same amount funding to social services

 @8VP6D8Mfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Put more funding in mental health approaches and training for police officers

 @8VGZFMTPeople’sfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

It should be split appropriately between both. More funding for social and economic programs could mean less crime

 @8SM73DLfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

police should be funded as well as work with social and community based programs. Trained for both.

 @8SFJJPGfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

if money is removed from government funding, they still have to make $, thus more speed traps and a police state...I see no winner here.

 @8R4KM77from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, increase training, and time required to join in to decrease corruption in the force

 @8R3FG3NLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase training, stricter surveillance on police officers to ensure no breach in protocol.

No, and increase transparency and public accountability. No more “we’ve investigated ourselves and found we’ve done nothing.” Also, institute stricter standards and harsher punishments for officers that fail to protect, serve, and uphold the Constitution. No more paid leave for abuse of power and then two months later they’re back on the force. If any police officer abuses their power their should not only be fired but should suffer criminal consequences and be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

No. Funding should be increased for training and setting up community police centers where officers can become part of the community.

 @98FW6SKfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Keep police funding and provide better training, while also investing in social programs.

 @95R9Y4Rfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8TWBFVRGreenfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Not about making a choice between the two and having them work in tandem together

 @8THHZYMfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, diversify police training and programming to work within and deal with issues within the social and community climate. (ie. Mental health, public education,etc)
