“Defund the police” is a slogan that supports divesting funds from police departments and reallocating them to non-policing forms of public safety and community support, such as social services, youth services, housing, education, healthcare and other community resources.

No, but that funding should be lessened while being focused towards training, regulations, and removing corruption

Police and social and community programs should work collaboratively to ensure best social and public outcomes possible. Police should not be refunded but the result of collaboration should be more focused on better and healthier community and personal outcomes for the individuals involved

No, the police should no longer be involved with non-criminal events, public safety officers with specialized public training to deescalate and mental issues on top of self defense courses - these should be doing the majority of civil work like traffic tickets, bylaw enforcement, patrolling the streets. The way it used to work was better.

Funding should be given to these programs, but not necessarily pulled from police budgets. However, police budgets should be subject to yearly audits.
Increased funding for police education in social work and increase funding for social workers to learn policing tactics. Pair the two in one car, one unarmed. Police officer has the ability to make a "call" on location for safety.

@8VV8SPL4yrs4Y
I still believe that the police force can be a force for good but the systemic racism needs to end.
@8VRG5R54yrs4Y
Increase police funding in certain departments such as mental health, abuse, etc.
@8VPNGP84yrs4Y
No there should be an equal balance between police and social and community based programs, however reforms should happen
@8VK3CFK4yrs4Y
The justice system needs to be overhauled to better suit the values of our society of today for all people. There needs to be a partnership between police and social resources to address the calls coming in and resolve them safely.
@8VHJNLB4yrs4Y
No, increase funding for both police departments and social and community based programs
more training and uphold human rights
No, there should be an appropriate share amongst social programs that decrease crime and police should have increased funding for proper equipment and advanced psychological and situational training

I think the number of times we actually call the police for serious issues that require trained individuals is a lot less than the media makes it out to be, so having a basic but smaller trained group for initial calls or smaller issues, whether this be by employment, volunteers, or both, in order to cut down on costs. From my point of view, the police have too much money put towards them which is abused later and gives the police a sense of being higher and more important since they are paid to enforce rules that they can be excused for breaking in some cases. This sense of being above the law causes unfairness.
Basically, I believe less funding should go to police systems and be put into things like education or food/housing/basic needs for people who need the support, or mental health programs etc
@8SDCP6V4yrs4Y
I feel it should be equaly dispersed between public porgrams and Police dept.
