More police with better mental health training and higher wages for social workers to accompany the police.

 @B36RD53from Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

it depends on what programs they are being funded for because the police should also recieve some funds for the protection they prodive aswell

 @B36R5TYfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

I personally think that there should be a balance, funding towards law enforcement in society is crucial, therefore the funds necessary to maintain law enforcement should remain dedicated to this cause. Funding for community based programs should not be taken out of law enforcement funding.

Downsize police forces and increase funding for them to respond to threats of physical natures. Replace all other calls with a community/mental health approach to de-escalation and referall to resources.

Yes more social programs but more training, making our police more versatile than force in any situation. More training, less force.

 @9FS9T7Tfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Give police the power to arrest drug dealers easier. The streets are dangerous right now. Forced rehabilitation and drug programs needed asap.

Yes, but add social education programs to help them better navigate difficult interactions without resorting to physical restraint/ means unless absolutely necessary.

 @8VQCSL5from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

If police do not receive funding, they will not be able to do their job. That being said, there should be a larger amount of dollars going towards social and community based programs. Funding should not be taken away from police.

 @8VN2GY9New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

There should be more police training around social issues and more money to put into social programs but our police force is still need the funding at this time.

 @8VL2RG5from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, money for these programs should come directly from the gov't. Should not be redirected from the police.

They should increase education requirements for police and have more vetting of them as well as increase funding for community programs

 @8V6LKS5from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

The programs that are not related to the police should be redirected to community based organizations

 @8TWYSWWfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes but overall training should be provided and more funding allocated to ensure that both the social and community based programs and the police contiune to function. there should be both, but the expectations placed by underfunding the police for years yet increasing the demand and reposnsiblities should be reassessed and redistributed.

 @8TVXPCWfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

There can be some reductions but as long as we are a neighbour of the USA we need an armed police force.

The funding rather should be reduced, so that way both the police still have funding and community programs still have support too.

 @8TCWGXQfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Decrease funding but dont redirect all the money to social and community based programs.

 @9C2LM8Zfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Keep the funding for police and add more funding directly to social and community based programs.

 @99PNYRMfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but there needs to be more funding for social and community based programs

 @99PMZC6Conservativefrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

You can't defund the police, they do need better training and also need to be a assisted by a social worker or councillor to calls with mental health issues, domestic abuse cases. Just like when a child is involved child services are involved.

considering Alberta's policing systems aren't the greatest I feel like its not horrible where its at now but we could draw funding from lots of un-needed things that cost us a lot.
