rather than take from the police abolish department waste and put more money into communities separately

 @9T8FDXGfrom Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

No. Keep police infrastructure and replace the quota system to reduce police incentive for violence. Officers should also be required to go through a screening, particularly violent individuals should not be allowed on the force.

 @9M5MYJCfrom Alberta  answered…12mos12MO

You need to spend money on police and social programs together, until the effects of supporting people have been able to reduce crime. Police should not be dealing with people who need need support, not force. Police also should not be as militarized as they are becoming.

 @9J5ZH7HLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

I think there is a middle ground. Where funds toward police can be minimized but not removed entirely.

 @9FF93ZPfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

I feel like this is an area thing again. Places like Marlborough or Forest Lawn/Heights should get a more trained and faster responding police force, whereas safer communities don't need it as much.

 @99MR6J3from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, provide them with additional funding and extensive screening and training programs. Then support that with social and community regimes.

 @95D9LYKfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe that both are very important for different reasons. Funding for police departments for security to make sure everyone is safe. Social community programs for building a community

 @95D8QLTNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Policing does not require all the money they have. Some departments can be defunded to allow for better training, better prisons, whatever they so choose it go for.

 @93L5WD3from Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

No, additional funding should be allocated to social and community based programs.

 @8YX8XVZConservativefrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe that the police still need funding in order to protect the people but the funding for social and community programs should be increased.

 @8VTXT9Ffrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but we should increase spending on Social and Community based programs

 @8VT96H3from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

A portion should be directed to community based programs, there is plenty of unnecessary spending within police departments.

 @8VNNMCYfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but encourage and increase community based programs for non-violent calls.

 @8VN22QDfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

they should use the funding to start positive programs for at risk people to offer education that will help everyone be better people and support themselves / and or families on their own

 @8VMMQSDfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, spending on local departments should be reduced but money should not be redirected to just community based programs

 @8VMC99FConservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

We should increase training for police so they are more competent. There is a clear issue, but defunding will only make it worse.

 @8VK6WC5from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

To a point, but there should also be an effort to improve the quality of policing so that instances of police brutality/misconduct are less common.

 @8V67FN9from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Some ammount of funding should be redirected to social and community based programs.

 @8T9NK9Dfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Not arbitrarily. A balance between police departments and social programs must be found. However, a highly capable and well trained police force with strong psychological and social components should be funded.

 @8SX598Zfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I think that funding should go to local police departments and social and community based programs as they are bot beneficial to the inhabitants of that area

 @8RLNMZQLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only a small well calculated part of the budget that still ensures a strong local police department.

 @8RFJ372from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but not entirely; the police service should be reformed so that lethality is used as a last-resort and more moral and safe policing methods can be the first line of defence.

 @8RBC8Q3from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8R2KC89from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, social community based programs are helpful, however money should not be taken from the police for them.

 @8QRRQHGfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @99HH6R5New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No. Redistribute funding towards better training for police officers and stronger internal investigation units to prevent future incidents of violence against social minorities.

 @99CW7D9from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

More money for policing, police training and more for social programming to help with substance abuse, living on the streets etc.

 @9954D87Liberalfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, more effort should be put into creating a safe and understanding relationship between police and citizens, there should be more social outreach programs that have police interacting with higher crime rate communities in a positive manner.

 @98T49KWfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Redirect funding to better suit the communities that are effected. Make better training for police in order to diffuse and better handle situations
