I believe there is a need for a police service but some resources should be redirected to social and community programs to help address social issues which can be contributing factors to increased crime.

 @B4M2M6Wfrom Manitoba  answered…6 days6D

Significantly more training and testing for police, less for profit policing and more public service and protection. Stop pensionable OT, and take settlements out of pensions instead of local coffers and budgets

 @B4L2WT5from Manitoba  answered…1wk1W

Some funds reallocated to social and community based services, also increase funding to better screen potential police recruits (esp for mental health) and provide more MH training to recruits and ongoing training for officers.

 @B3HJK9Rfrom Manitoba  answered…2mos2MO

Yes, but for non-violent calls. Funding should also be allocated to provide police with more in-depth training on crisis intervention and trauma-informed de-escalation tactics.

 @B323YJRfrom Manitoba  answered…2mos2MO

Local police should be better integrated into community activity, possibly using some funds for community outreach programs led by the department, and working with neighborhood watch groups

 @B28NC9Yfrom Manitoba  answered…3mos3MO

No, allocate funding to increased training involving emotional intelligence, situational training, and score the work force with similar competency tests like similar to NAV Canada ATC's

 @9YKHL3Bfrom Manitoba  answered…5mos5MO

No, Funding should not be redirected it should instead be used more for reinforcing more modern ways of think and better strategy for solving problems and altercations

 @9VMWZRKfrom Manitoba  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, but only some of the funding should be given to social and community programs, we still need the police.

 @9RD97H3from Manitoba  answered…9mos9MO

Better transparency in spending and more in sync with social and community based programs to better deal with situations and their unique needs

 @9RBVGVQfrom Manitoba  answered…9mos9MO

As someone that dealt with the overwhelming amount of violence that occurs at “non violent” situations we would need to double our police forces before we could “replace” them with unarmed responders to deal with the couple of non violent calls each day.

 @9MBK7TPfrom Manitoba  answered…11mos11MO

money shouldn't be redirect from the police, but it should be found in other places to be give to socal and community based programs.

 @9JVPMV2from Manitoba  answered…1yr1Y

No, divert funding to good training to ensure and eliminate the riddance of corruption within our justice system

 @9FXFB4Wfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

Fund both? Fund Police to ensure the community is still safe, but also Fund other social and community based programs like suicide prevention programs.

 @9FSPRT9from Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

Add more non-violent deescalating techniques for police while implanting unarmed responders for non violent calls

 @9FQPK2Rfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, lower the funding towards police departments to increase alternatives but still keep police services

 @99XSG8Tfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

Some funds should be added to social and community based programs, but police are still needed.

 @98WRY44from Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

No but increase funding and training for police departments is all communities.

 @969XGQ9from Manitoba  answered…3yrs3Y

I think funding for the police should remain the same, but they should put more efforts into training police on cultural sensitivity.

 @967778Lfrom Manitoba  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only after the root cause (housing, education, mental health) has been addressed

 @96573DZfrom Manitoba  answered…3yrs3Y

in my opinion i feel the money should be split between police and social community to en order more ways of growing, and evaluate off a base of time and see whats more effective for that town/city/community.

 @92BJ7YTfrom Manitoba  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes but not overly defunding the police as we still need them, however social and community programs could help with a lot of issues that police just aren’t trained to deal with except arrest them.

 @8ZNGN4Sfrom Manitoba  answered…3yrs3Y

Only reduce their militarization and put into social program. Regular policing should be left intact.

get more funding from taxing the rich to go to better police AND more social/community programs

 @8VTXFXRfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only partially to increase community initiatives, police should not be abolished but rather trained better and have stricter admittance into the force.

 @8VSNFM8from Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes but just some funds and let police deter and respond to crimes and not act as social workers.

 @8VQWRWZfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but increase funding for training and police departments in smaller communities.

 @8VN2DTDfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VMDR7Dfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

More funding for mental health. We are forcing police to be social workers . They are vital for crime prevention but the health care - drug use, mental health is necessary to off load some of the hot issues

 @8VLS9B6New Democraticfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Community programs should exist more/have more funding. Has nothing to do with police.

 @8VKFZMFfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

police should still receive funding but funding can also be directed to community/social based programs

 @8VHS62Ffrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Keep police, but part of funding to go towards community based initiatives.

 @8VHLH4NLiberalfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VH9MBQfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Better training for police and some reform needed. Don’t want to go to the extreme.

 @8VF33YNfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Demilitarize the police and have them work with community based responders more.

 @8VCD8RKfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but funding for those services should be increased and cross-training should be done to teach the police and these programs to work together.

 @8VC753Bfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes and No, police should have better training overall to treat certain situations with better care.

Have police + social workers/mental health care workers respond to wellness calls

 @8TVW68ZConservativefrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

No, it shouldnt be redirected but more funding should be provided to community based programs as well.

 @8TVF5TYLiberalfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

No, police should not be abolished, but funding for social and community based programs should be increased, and police should be trained to better respond/be vetted more before being hired.

 @8TJPP2DConservativefrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

No, Increase funding for training police. Also add funding for social and community based programs

 @8TDK997from Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8T2DR8Xfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

I think that it should be split more evenly, because both programs are important

 @8RL3DTNfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Leave the police out of it. Redirect funds from elsewhere towards social and community based programs.

 @8QSXJXFfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes and no There should be unarmed responders for small situations, and revised police training and funding

 @8QFQ38Xfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

They risk their lives daily and should be recognized as such, But the ones who do bad should be fired and put in jail for long sentances.

 @8QBGVBSfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PKRBS2Liberalfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

SOME funding should be redirected. The rest should be directed at proper training for police.

 @8P898QTfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

 @9BYMWRGGreenfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

Policing is a highly complex job. Entrance requirements should be raised and policing should be at least a bachelor's degree course covering all aspects of the occupation.

 @9BN8647from Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

Don’t get rid of the people in place to protect us, just make sure they are actually doing their job. Funding towards community programs should be increased

 @9B4JFN3from Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

Police should be redirected from traffic tickets (fundraising) to actually walking the streets and being more visible in the community. Some funds can be redirected to crisis workers for non-violent situations.

 @995YMGNLiberalfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

Decrease funding to put towards social and community based programs but ensure police are adequately funded.

 @9956Q2Zfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

Increase funding for police education, training and proportionate community based responders. No police is not an answer.

 @9939VTZfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

 @98P34X7Conservativefrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

No! Until Canada addresses the concerns of high rate crime committed it's not feasible at this time.

 @98NWJMKfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

We must crack down on crime and begin prosecuting offenders with harsher penalties, including the death penalty. This involves planning a campaign in schools to uphold moral principles and norms of how people should respect one another. After addressing the concerns, only then can we discuss the enforcement of policing policies.

 @97WZ6H9New Democraticfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

Not replace the police but add unarmed community based responders for non-violent calls

 @8Z76YHFfrom Manitoba  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, create units for non-violent calls with specially trained social workers and police officers

 @8VH9C49from Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Funding should go towards better mental health, and conflict resolution training for officers. As well as preventing racial profiling or biases towards BIPOC.

 @8VGNLKWfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and police should be better trained as to what their job really is. When l was little it was ‘to serve and protect’. Nowadays it’s ‘to intimidate and harass’.

 @8SHHHXYfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

 @9HR86B3from Manitoba  answered…1yr1Y

Funding questions raise the topic of how much is to much if overworking or to much work for one sector and can be readjusted into multi sector inter joint ventures with separate funding lines but still close secure and confidential and ease of access

 @9D5HV3Nfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

No, the Police should be trained to de-escalate situations instead of provoking people to the point of arresting/charging them. (Protect & Serve instead of the current Collect and Un-nerve.)
Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training, Conflict Resolution, and basic human decency should be mandatory for all officers.
