Yes, redirect SOME funding toward better social programs for non-violent offences.

 @9VYLRGPLiberalfrom New Brunswick  answered…6mos6MO

These points should not be at odds. There should be more funding for community/social intervention, however this does not have to come at the expense of policing and there may be more or less funding required for both.

 @9VRV3DMLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…6mos6MO

No but more funding needs to be provided for social and community programs. Also, policing needs to change to allow for community based responders to deal with non-violent calls. There should be a partnership with the 2.

 @9TJ6VW7Liberalfrom Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, community programs should be funded more but it shouldn't take away from our first responder's who also need more funding

 @9J5ZH7HLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

I think there is a middle ground. Where funds toward police can be minimized but not removed entirely.

 @9HVT5WNLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

No, increase spending for police to hire social workers and mental health professionals to come with police officers to non-violent calls

 @9H5JCH8Liberalfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

I think they should figure out a way to split the funding between the police departments and a community based program because some calls for 911 arent violent calls and it should be something the community based program should take care of instead of the police department.

 @9GQCRWPLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Policy decisions should be data-based on whether more social services or more police would benefit a given district/

 @9GG2R56Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Police who have abused their power should be immediately punished but we still need funding for the police

 @9FQZ4Q7Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but current funding should be allocated differently with more emphasis on training officers for situations where they deal with minorities

 @9FPBNFQLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

This is a garbage topic. We should consider other options than police for wellness checks. Funding local police and social community programs is warranted and there is room for improvement on both.

 @9F8RH6WLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Keep the police though put them through more training and be more selective with choosing cops.

 @9F2MMCGLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

More funding to both, police needs more training and pay, more social and community programs funding

 @9DSSX93Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Funding should not be completely redirected towards social and community programs but funding should be increased for community based programs.

 @968FGG2Liberalfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @963PGL9Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe funding should be increased for Police as well as redirecting funding for social services. Essentially my opinion is why not do both, police need better training and social services should be more funded.

 @95RPTVRLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding for police should stay but funding needs to be available for social and community programs. Police should work with social workers.

 @95PL3PLLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Increased funding for police education in social work and increase funding for social workers to learn policing tactics. Pair the two in one car, one unarmed. Police officer has the ability to make a "call" on location for safety.

 @95HYK3ZLiberalfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

reallocate money towards training them in more mental health situations

 @94BGQXFLiberalfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding for police should remain, further training should be implemented, and increase funds for social and community based programs

 @93TL26CLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Unfortunately there has been several cases of police brutality towards POC, in the past decade especially, but those working for the police for the greater good of their community still require funding to be able to do so. More funding should go towards ensuring officers are morally and physically trained for the position, and funding for social and community based programs should come from somewhere else, or in small portions from the police.

 @933BQGFLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @92VCVB9Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

No. The police require the funding they have. We need to integrate social and community based programs and increase their funding and perhaps also funding to the police to integrate them.

 @92FS3TBLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Consider adding responders that are trained to deal with people with mental illnesses and add funding to this program

 @8ZX5HSVLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZW2728Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZR4S7LLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

No. A balance between funding both police services and social/community based programs should be pursued and implemented.

 @8ZNX3MJLiberalfrom Newfoundland  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZDDNQ4Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YYJ45FLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

No, redirect some funds from weaponry towards better training and more psychiatric examinations

 @8YX4FBBLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Police should have better training and they should learn how to handle situations with as little violence possible maybe even without weapons (depends on the circumstance).

 @8YNNHM2Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Continue the funding but limit it and redirect them for community needs.

 @8YLRL55Liberalfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Police partner with social and community-based programs to reduce crime, but still have police.

 @8YHJK8YLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YCLPYYLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Do an audit for the police and see what departments can be changed to community lead service and which departments need more funding.

 @8XNHDYZLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes replacing the police with unarmed citizens sounds like a good idea at first but against an armed criminal? I personally think police should not have guns but instead other methods like tazers/rubber bullets/ tear gas and be trained more mentally in quick time situations to disarming and catching the suspect alive

 @8XHXL3XLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe yes and no because of the lack of caring for people the police have in canada

 @8WWP38RLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8W894YPLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Instead of defunding the Police, we should redirect the funding towards more training such as: Mental health, cultural training, having something in place to discuss emotions as oppose to restricting Officers from talking about there emotions

 @8VTCFVCLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VSNC8SLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Some money should go to community based programs but the police are still important

 @8VSN2JDLiberalfrom Quebec  answered…4yrs4Y

Relook at the training officers receive regarding firearms. Make sure Mental health training is incorporated into training. Have onhand Mental Health specialists.

 @8VNLZM8Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I think the funding could be lowered and put towards community and social based groups but the police should still be funded.

 @8VMJQL9Liberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

I think that funding things like responders based for non-violent calls like a suicide call are very important. because all that a bunch of heavily armed individuals shouting is going to do is making an already scared person feel more scared and defensive. that's why having responders that aren't armed and have phycology training is important

 @8VKYL9PLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, police should require a degree and go through higher training once hired. Similar to those in European countries.

 @8VK9R4TLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

the funding should be change to include more social services to work with first responders

 @8VHLH4NLiberalfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VH6LZ8Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase finding to public programs in higher crime rate areas and once evidence based information is in regardind decrease need for police presence/increased training then realocate funds as needed

 @8VGQKJSLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VGPH8ZLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Somewhat; police departments should have increased training and only some funding should be redirected to social and community based programs

 @8VDDFN9Liberalfrom Newfoundland  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VCCKRHLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Some, but not all. Community programs are helpful but the police do have a place in society

 @8VC7GC8Liberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

no, but their current budget should be adjusted to ensure the proper training is provided

 @8VBSZ5XLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

They should increase education requirements for police and have more vetting of them as well as increase funding for community programs

 @8VBSYTWLiberalfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Still fund police but provide more training as well as new programs. Some issues would be helped with mental health professionals instead of police

 @8V9DGB2Liberalfrom New Brunswick  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, replace police with ARMED community based responders for non-violent calls

 @8V8HQ3KLiberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Some should be, and becoming a police officer should require a two year certificate program that educates and evaluates candidates properly.

 @8V5WRFTLiberalfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

A little, but they should not be abolished, but given organizations to work beside

 @8V55TGFLiberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TZGTTVLiberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Not mutually exclusive. Fund police adequately and funds social community programs and have both with accountability

 @8TYLFP7Liberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, the police are underfunded. Keep it the same, create community response teams and add smaller taxes for cities that have the resources.

 @8TWPTVKLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TVF5TYLiberalfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

No, police should not be abolished, but funding for social and community based programs should be increased, and police should be trained to better respond/be vetted more before being hired.

 @8TMMNXGLiberalfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TK67HKLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I think we need police, but we should add funding towards proper mental health training

 @8TJ72H5Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8THVWNDLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TH3G38Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Answer changes according to what aspect of the police funding is being redirected.

 @8TG9XVWLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and local police forces should hire community based groups as consultants

 @8TD635GLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

The funding rather should be reduced, so that way both the police still have funding and community programs still have support too.

 @8T42TNQLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Funding should be allocated towards training against the overuse of force.

 @8T3SG28Liberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

It could help a lot of people help stay out of trouble with the law, so yes we should consider it, but we should also consider the needs of the police department as well, with proper training to respond to different situations, and programs they may need.

 @8SWZMVHLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Police forces should continue to be funded and receive increased training regarding mental health crises and de-escalation tactics.

 @8SWZCTWLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Funding for police should only go to extra training, bonuses should never be based on arrests

 @8STNNB4Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8ST2WSSLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SRQHT3Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, redirect some of the police funding towards social and community-based programs.

 @8SNYCMHLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

lessen the funding and faze it down slowly while training and setting unarmed community based responders

 @8SKYH72Liberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Depends, on the crime rate in the area, or what programs it would be etc.

 @8SBSQKNLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Some funding should be directed, the police is still important. Racial bias and addiction info should be included in police training.

 @8S9NTBSLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

The Police departments do not need funding for military equipment. The Police departments should receive less funding, but we do still need Police. The funding not needed for military equipment should go to community programs

 @8RLNMZQLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only a small well calculated part of the budget that still ensures a strong local police department.

 @8RC3VJRLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8R8T9H4Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I think the police or mandatory but the government should start funding social and community based programs

 @8R3FG3NLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase training, stricter surveillance on police officers to ensure no breach in protocol.

 @8QX23P9Liberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Police should be generally better trained for a longer period of time before becoming fully fledged

 @8QT3V3VLiberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

yes and no, if we did not have the rcmp or the local police our cities would turn into a city from hell. it should be equal.

 @8QRVKS6Liberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, somewhat of the funding. But not completely because the police should still get their fair amount of the funding. Completely abolishing them or taking away their guns does not seem reasonable. Overspending on them is wrong though.

 @8QRNGHFLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, provide more funds to social and community based responders. Yet, maintain a minimum amount of strength of police within our local communities

 @8QRK49FLiberalfrom Quebec  answered…4yrs4Y

I think the police sytem needs to be re-funded into a better physically and psychologically trained. With good and respectful values.
