Yes, redirect SOME funding toward better social programs for non-violent offences.

 @8H6JLM3from Quebec  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, reduce the police budget and allocate police evenly across the city. Put funds into stopping sex trafficking, gun violence, etc. Stop over policing some areas over others.

 @9V9R57Lfrom Saskatchewan  answered…7mos7MO

No, but money going into the police department should be used to promote equality under the law, via trainings ect.

 @9SNLZ3Sfrom British Columbia  answered…8mos8MO

The police should be replaced and led by uncorrupted and non racist individuals to avoid police brutality and racism, instead of playing to white supremacy.

 @9G8F9LCNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

no, current funding should be used for teaching about mental health issues in the people as well as de-escalating situations and non-violent tactics

 @9CLF8FBfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

I think that we should have funding for programs for at risk youth but, we should have better training for high crime areas.

 @95HLG9Tfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

do not cut the funding for police but create less harmful responders for non violent calls

 @95BRPDNfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

While some funding should be redirected to social and community based programs, efforts should go into the retraining of police and advocacy for non-confrontational and non-violent calls.

 @8YMXWD7from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

the police should get more funding fo better training especially in racial bias.

 @8XMV3KJfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8VWQGM7from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, redirect funding in police to train for de-escalation and other types of training

 @8VRZY3Vfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Police need more comprehensive training AND we need more money for social programs.

 @8VRLD9Sfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase funding to help officers be better through education and sensitivity training

 @8VMFPYMNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Money needs to be allocating into better training, especially when it comes to mental health and learn non violent interventions

 @8VLX5RSfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VLRB84from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Not fully redirected, but more money should be going to community, but also still some going to police

 @8VGYRYLfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Police should receive more training but the government should also be putting more money into social and community based programs.

 @8VGVTB9from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase funding and training for police departments around the country and also redirect some funding towards social and crisis based forces trained to deal with certain situations

 @8VBB3K6from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Police should not be defunded but spending on social programs should be increased

 @8V9DGB2Liberalfrom New Brunswick  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, replace police with ARMED community based responders for non-violent calls

 @8TYX9XFfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

More funding should be sent to community based programs but also towards training the police

 @8TXBG56from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes it should be redirected. But also training and the intake process should be changed to determine people's views on things. Helping to limit and abolish the amount of racists and sexists in the force.

 @8TK67HKLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I think we need police, but we should add funding towards proper mental health training

 @8TK2ZQCfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe police should not carry guns or be allowed to physically abuse anyone is any way

 @8TJ4QSSfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

redirect some funding to social and community based programs, but do not take away all funds from the police.

 @8TGSHWTfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

More funding should be allocated do proper mental health support can be used but not all finding

 @8TG9XVWLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and local police forces should hire community based groups as consultants

 @8TG9HZLfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

There should be a remodeling of current police practices and standards with an emphasis on removing an 'us vs them' mentality and culture within police forces as well as a demilitarisation of police forces. Funds from military style equipment for police forces aught to be spent on community based social programs.

 @8T9ZZM2from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Neither. Just keep the police doing what they do, but don't increase funding.

 @8T8SZZ9from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

I think it all depends on crime rates in the area. Should a small town with a small population of mostly normal families have high police funding? no. Should big cities with high crime rates have high police funding? Yes.

 @8T6YJTCfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

More substantial background and mental stability checks to become a police officer.

 @8T2DR8Xfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

I think that it should be split more evenly, because both programs are important

 @8SVBTKVfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SPJKZFfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

More police training, crisis training and psychological checks, also hold police accountable and have bigger consequences for using lethal force unless in extreme high risk cases.

 @8SL99XNfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but reform of police and increased accountability and funding + training to train officers to not use excessive, unneeded force.

 @8SJ5BDVfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, instead the funding should be distributed better, to allow for an improvement in the training of police officers.

 @8SFR7XVfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes and No, but after a full audit is done to understand where the spending goes but there needs to be some funding still going to the police

 @8S9NTBSLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

The Police departments do not need funding for military equipment. The Police departments should receive less funding, but we do still need Police. The funding not needed for military equipment should go to community programs

 @8S42FF5from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe the police should get what ever funding they need to retrain and rework their system from stopping fight/crimes to preventing and deescalating.

 @8RWT4XZfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I feel that we should still have a police department but our officers should require more training and schooling and taught to eliminate bias

 @8RN2SHTfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Some funding for police but some could be switched to community matters etc

 @8RJ3DYCfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Audits need to happen in order to make sure funds are allocated properly

 @8R9WRZ2from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but maintain some funding for police as well as increase training.

 @8QXDSNQfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QLJMM2from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Once there's more gun control in the USA, the police should receive lower funds and have less weaponry. The lower access guns there are in the States would most likely lower the access to guns in Canada. Therefore, there wouldn't be a need to have weapons on police all the time.

 @8QFCQGTNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, police should recieve more funding to use on better training and community initiatives.

 @8QF2V55from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, it should be it should be put towards better and longer more effective training for police

 @8PPY29Hfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Social and community based programs need more funding, but I also think the police do. People want change in the police force, and they need money to do that. Hire people that actually know what they’re doing, to be properly educated, have more people that specialize in actually HELPING people.

 @8NWJ2SSfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

funding should be directed towards educating police on human behaviour and rehabilitation for prisoners

 @9C475H4from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Increase time it takes to become a police offer and prefrom mental health evaluations

 @9BYCJZHfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

in between, yes the police should have more funding and more training but also have highly interviewed volunteers for lower crimes.

 @99BWL3Gfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

Funding should be increased for social security programs and police programs

 @997JCBXfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Keep current funding for police but find funding to increase social programs.

 @9944BMHNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

While police should not be abolished, some funds should be redirected to social programs.

 @98MNHWZfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only some of the police budget should go towards social and community based programs

 @92F92XHfrom Quebec  answered…3yrs3Y

Maintain enforcement budgets but reinvest community liaison budgets and services to health care and social services

 @8VMKWJGNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TMF4PFfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8THHZYMfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, diversify police training and programming to work within and deal with issues within the social and community climate. (ie. Mental health, public education,etc)

 @8QJQ8GNfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe less money should be provided and instead used for a community response team

 @8YMT7T3 from California  answered…3yrs3Y

I don't think we should completely defund the police but we should defenitely direct more money to social and community based programs.

 @8NMZLRC from Indiana  answered…4yrs4Y

No, don't take money from the police. They are a necessity in every community. Invest in social and community based programs that promote rehabilitation, support and a "step-up" program that helps citizens become gradually more independent self reliant members of society. Create more social resources for mental health. With time, well structured social programs will naturally result in decreased crime.

 @8H2G98J from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

The police department should be given less funding, and have a remodeled system that requires more training and knowledge of drugs, mental illness, and other issues that are similar. Police should also not be allowed to use a gun unless completely necessary and should be charged if they wrongfully kill a person when it could be avoided

 @8SFDLS6 from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only funding that is not essential. Such as the defunding of police militarization. Only that money should be redirected to social programs.

 @93MYGJV from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

In stead of taking funding from local police, we should direct some money from the military to social and community based programs. While the police should be placed with more restirctions on gun use and training.
