No but police need specialized training in mental health and more training in non-leathal force

 @9YNBJYHNew Democraticfrom Quebec  answered…5mos5MO

Yes and no, increase funding for local police departments to educate them but also create social and community-based programs that can deal with different types of situations.

 @9W74WNBfrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

Allocate existing funding and resources towards educating officers on systemic racism inherent to the police system with the goal to reduce police brutality and racial profiling.

Direct more funds towards social and community-based programs - why does it have to come from the police fund? Question seems irrelevant and pointed.

 @9SNLZ3Sfrom British Columbia  answered…8mos8MO

The police should be replaced and led by uncorrupted and non racist individuals to avoid police brutality and racism, instead of playing to white supremacy.

 @9QQPJSRPeople’sfrom Ontario  answered…10mos10MO

Part of it could be for funding local police departments, but some of it could also be used for community based programs.

 @9HS37CYfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Maybe just let an accountant comb through the police budget without threat of livelihood being compromised. I’m sure there’s plenty of fat to cut.

 @9GQCRWPLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Policy decisions should be data-based on whether more social services or more police would benefit a given district/

 @9CLF8FBfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

I think that we should have funding for programs for at risk youth but, we should have better training for high crime areas.

 @96DRDYWfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95HLG9Tfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

do not cut the funding for police but create less harmful responders for non violent calls

 @94FZFL6from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

keep it the same and find other funds for community based programs as well.

 @93TL26CLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Unfortunately there has been several cases of police brutality towards POC, in the past decade especially, but those working for the police for the greater good of their community still require funding to be able to do so. More funding should go towards ensuring officers are morally and physically trained for the position, and funding for social and community based programs should come from somewhere else, or in small portions from the police.

 @93G3LSPfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

Police funding should remain healthy while still dispersing a helpful and fair amount of money to social and community-based programs.

 @929JF7Bfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

No, instead create new positions for mental health and crisis counseling experts to assist in non-violent calls

 @927WQGJfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

No, funding should be increased to include alternative response methods. In GB and other countries, first responders don't have guns. Several teams intervene before armed response. And increase funding to community programs like mental health initiatives and youth counselling as prevention.

 @926XCDDfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YMXWD7from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

the police should get more funding fo better training especially in racial bias.

 @8YLRG4Sfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but with the hope that the police departments train in a social work course.

 @8XX9M3Ffrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8VS85NMNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Reallocate funding for more desecalation training and mental health training

 @8VRZY3Vfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Police need more comprehensive training AND we need more money for social programs.

 @8VRQPFLfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VRLD9Sfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase funding to help officers be better through education and sensitivity training

 @8VP6D8Mfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Put more funding in mental health approaches and training for police officers

 @8VN2DTDfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VMFPYMNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Money needs to be allocating into better training, especially when it comes to mental health and learn non violent interventions

 @8VLRB84from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Not fully redirected, but more money should be going to community, but also still some going to police

 @8VLCT8Rfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Absolutely, the police are a joke. They do nothing to help and just cause anxiety. We need more social programming.

 @8VL9R38from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VL4GDBfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VKNBZTConservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VK7JBBfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, funding for police should include de-esclation, and a focus on mental stress health

 @8VK3CFKfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

The justice system needs to be overhauled to better suit the values of our society of today for all people. There needs to be a partnership between police and social resources to address the calls coming in and resolve them safely.

 @8VHL7RYfrom Quebec  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VGYRYLfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Police should receive more training but the government should also be putting more money into social and community based programs.

 @8VG9KRWfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No but change the policing system to handle non violent and violent people/situations better.

 @8VDNFQBfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

no, increase funding and training for de escalation tactics and address best practices for managing people in a mental health crisis

 @8VDKY7WLibertarianfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

police should have access to more training and social workers and addiction counsellors should be on site if needed.

 @8VC4W68from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Some funding should be taken out of the police budget and put towards better social programs

 @8V7H5KHGreenfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe the police are an important staple in community safety, however i believe that SOME of their funding should be funneled into social and community initiatives.

 @8V7GV6Jfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8V7CSFRfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Some, but I still think funding is important to our service members. Adequate training, and more support systems for non-violent crime and mental health is a middle ground I think could help.

 @8V6YCPYfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8V6CDL5New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

They should lower funding for certain departments and increase funding to programs to solve underlying issues we need both police and programs

 @8V55TGFLiberalfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TZRWBGfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, there should be more funding for police departments in mental health education to best support the community.

 @8TYX9XFfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

More funding should be sent to community based programs but also towards training the police

 @8TXBG56from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes it should be redirected. But also training and the intake process should be changed to determine people's views on things. Helping to limit and abolish the amount of racists and sexists in the force.

 @8TWGJ4BNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, part of police funding should be allocated to social & community based programs based on regional requirements, supervised by non-police leadership.

 @8TW43QRGreenfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, there should be an appropriate share amongst social programs that decrease crime and police should have increased funding for proper equipment and advanced psychological and situational training

 @8TVF5TYLiberalfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

No, police should not be abolished, but funding for social and community based programs should be increased, and police should be trained to better respond/be vetted more before being hired.

 @8TV8RPCfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Integrate social programs and medical staff with local police for relevant calls (eg. psych calls, ODs)

 @8TS4WKVfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Continue to fund the police and add community support funding for youth and dealing with specialized services.

 @8TPCHP4from Quebec  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TK67HKLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I think we need police, but we should add funding towards proper mental health training

 @8TK2ZQCfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe police should not carry guns or be allowed to physically abuse anyone is any way

 @8TGSHWTfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

More funding should be allocated do proper mental health support can be used but not all finding

 @8TG9XVWLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and local police forces should hire community based groups as consultants

 @8TG9HZLfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

There should be a remodeling of current police practices and standards with an emphasis on removing an 'us vs them' mentality and culture within police forces as well as a demilitarisation of police forces. Funds from military style equipment for police forces aught to be spent on community based social programs.

 @8T8NSHKfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I think we need the police more than ever but we need to put money in for better training. More deescalation rather than aggression. I think we need a fair balance of supported social programs and training the police properly.

 @8T7PDJ7from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8T7LKKFfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Amalgamate the services so that police have the same training as mental health officials. Because at the same time if it’s a serious issue the non-armed mental health people could be hurt/killed. Plus extensive background checks for police officers. (Social media, etc to monitor for racist and destructive behaviour)

 @8T6YJTCfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

More substantial background and mental stability checks to become a police officer.

 @8T2DR8Xfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

I think that it should be split more evenly, because both programs are important

 @8SXKXWCGreenfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Only partially. There are benefits to more social and community programs and less police, but not no police.

 @8SWN352from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SVBTKVfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SPJKZFfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

More police training, crisis training and psychological checks, also hold police accountable and have bigger consequences for using lethal force unless in extreme high risk cases.

 @8SL99XNfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but reform of police and increased accountability and funding + training to train officers to not use excessive, unneeded force.

 @8SFR7XVfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes and No, but after a full audit is done to understand where the spending goes but there needs to be some funding still going to the police

 @8S9NTBSLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

The Police departments do not need funding for military equipment. The Police departments should receive less funding, but we do still need Police. The funding not needed for military equipment should go to community programs

 @8RWT4XZfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I feel that we should still have a police department but our officers should require more training and schooling and taught to eliminate bias

 @8RN5QDMNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8RG6SG3from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I feel that police need more training and testing. But also they should be more restricted on thier funds.

 @8RBVGZDfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I think that there should be a redirection in some funding to support social services that would reduce the need for police to be at mental health or addictions calls

 @8R9WRZ2from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but maintain some funding for police as well as increase training.

 @8QY69VQfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I think that the money should be put towards harder testing to make sure that police or more properly selected and we'll carefully selected .

 @8QXDSNQfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QSYPQGfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Make sure that police are trained properly and not to immediately react with violence and instead find a peaceful solution, fire the bad ones

 @8QSHJ5Wfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QLJMM2from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Once there's more gun control in the USA, the police should receive lower funds and have less weaponry. The lower access guns there are in the States would most likely lower the access to guns in Canada. Therefore, there wouldn't be a need to have weapons on police all the time.
