No, give police departments should be given more training but some increased funding should still be given to community based programs.

 @8PQMR6HLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, redirect SOME funding toward better social programs for non-violent offences.

 @9FKGKD4from Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Police departments should be funded according to the area of the police station (crime rates, etc)

 @8QZS5YZfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Remove some funding from police, put it back into communities. I wouldn’t say replace all police but definitely agree w having an unarmed person responding to non violent calls

 @95BRPDNfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

While some funding should be redirected to social and community based programs, efforts should go into the retraining of police and advocacy for non-confrontational and non-violent calls.

 @92LMMJDfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

The funds should be split between police and other groups that would focus on deescalating and assisting with violent mental health issues.

 @8VTCFVCLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VRLD9Sfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase funding to help officers be better through education and sensitivity training

 @8VK7JBBfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, funding for police should include de-esclation, and a focus on mental stress health

 @8VGYRYLfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Police should receive more training but the government should also be putting more money into social and community based programs.

 @8VGVTB9from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase funding and training for police departments around the country and also redirect some funding towards social and crisis based forces trained to deal with certain situations

 @8VG9KRWfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No but change the policing system to handle non violent and violent people/situations better.

 @8VDKY7WLibertarianfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

police should have access to more training and social workers and addiction counsellors should be on site if needed.

 @8VB6L6Lfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TW43QRGreenfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, there should be an appropriate share amongst social programs that decrease crime and police should have increased funding for proper equipment and advanced psychological and situational training

 @8TTG8T7from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Both are equally important. The police can help solve problems when it’s too late to turn back, but social resources can aid people in getting help and prevent them from resorting to crime in the first place.

 @8TK67HKLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I think we need police, but we should add funding towards proper mental health training

 @8TGSHWTfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

More funding should be allocated do proper mental health support can be used but not all finding

 @8TCHTRYfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8T7PDJ7from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8T5NZR6from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Make the police also have a psychology background/education. To better equip them to descalate the situation.

 @8T42TNQLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Funding should be allocated towards training against the overuse of force.

 @8T2DR8Xfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

I think that it should be split more evenly, because both programs are important

 @8SY2DFFfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Extra funding should be directed to the police to combine police with teams of social workers and nurses. Community outreach to help find a treatment stream for persons suffering from mental health disorders

 @8SPJKZFfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

More police training, crisis training and psychological checks, also hold police accountable and have bigger consequences for using lethal force unless in extreme high risk cases.

 @8SN9TV4from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8RYSJ68New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I think the police are needed but should have extensive moral training.

 @8RWT4XZfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I feel that we should still have a police department but our officers should require more training and schooling and taught to eliminate bias

 @8RG6SG3from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I feel that police need more training and testing. But also they should be more restricted on thier funds.

 @8QXDSNQfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QFCQGTNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, police should recieve more funding to use on better training and community initiatives.

 @8QF2V55from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, it should be it should be put towards better and longer more effective training for police

 @8PPY29Hfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Social and community based programs need more funding, but I also think the police do. People want change in the police force, and they need money to do that. Hire people that actually know what they’re doing, to be properly educated, have more people that specialize in actually HELPING people.

 @8PKLLMSConservativefrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Community policing so the police know the people around them, hence lowering the danger involved with being stopped by police

 @8PKCQ27Rhinocerosfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, we should increase training in higher crime rate communities. Ones with lower rates should have a slight decrease

 @8PJRWDTLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

it should go towards training them to be better in the ways that they dont harm people who dont deserve it

 @8P6BRS8from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

some of the money should be allocated to social workers who go along with the police to issues like domestic abuse

 @8NWJ2SSfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

funding should be directed towards educating police on human behaviour and rehabilitation for prisoners

 @8KL8NGVfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @iAmCodeMonkeyLibertarianfrom Ontario  answered…5yrs5Y

This is a good idea, but we should not get rid of the police completely. We should be helping vulnerable people to not gravitate towards criminal activity in the first place and help them get support.

 @9CRJ8P8Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

I think it should be cut but not drastically, the amount of funding for police departments and social programs should be similar

 @99TPMBFfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @8TMRDM8from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but reallocate funds into more training for how to handle mental health issues.

 @3MB97K6answered…4yrs4Y

Fund the police but increase funding for social workers and utilize community responders for most calls

 @93MYGJV from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

In stead of taking funding from local police, we should direct some money from the military to social and community based programs. While the police should be placed with more restirctions on gun use and training.

 @52P5M5Sanswered…5yrs5Y

In theory this could work, however I'm more in favor of and increase in funding and better training. In some scenarios the police force may be too corrupt and may need to be completely disbanded and rebuilt.

 @8S4VH5F from Kansas  answered…4yrs4Y

It depends. We need specially trained police officers for specific scenarios. We also need racial-bias training.

 @8QVKJQM from New York  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8KG7DR8 from Maryland  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8H2G98J from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

The police department should be given less funding, and have a remodeled system that requires more training and knowledge of drugs, mental illness, and other issues that are similar. Police should also not be allowed to use a gun unless completely necessary and should be charged if they wrongfully kill a person when it could be avoided

 @842VWLK from Wisconsin  answered…3yrs3Y

yes, but only if there is still enough funding to police departments that they can still sustain themselves.

 @7NCC4DH from Texas  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but increase the funding for social and community-based programs and hire a new police force that handles cases equally regardless of race, instead of being more aggressive with Blacks.

 @7J3YXY3 from Massachusetts  answered…5yrs5Y

No. Add funding for unarmed community-based first-responders to support community safety.

 @7GP32QV from California  answered…4yrs4Y
