No, police should instead be trained to respond in non-violent situations in order to mitigate police issues

 @8Q2GXXRfrom Pennsylvania  agreed…4yrs4Y

Agreed. The main counter-argument with this is that cops get paid highly and it wastes their time. If you consider those social workers are paid around 15k less per year than cops, and if this was implemented, cops would be paid 15k higher a year for their additional abilities to control violent mentally ill patients better and considering that social workers would have to call the cops anyways in that situation, you are actually saving money!

Put more funding into training police in handling delicate situations that will result in less tension/negative effects (e.i dealing with autistic individuals, minority groups, etc)

 @9TQ5P3Tfrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

No, but restructure the police to include more humanitarian training to combat the apparent focus on flexing power to enforce the law

 @9RSBJBJfrom Ontario  answered…9mos9MO

Yes and no. They should focus spending on social and community based programs, but that shouldn’t mean we should stop funding our police?

 @9K9Z4NBfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

While there is an importance in having the police, I feel that a chunk of the funding should go towards community programs that focus on bettering the community and the helping the people rather than over patrolling, etc.

 @9FY4X5Lfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Stop increasing police funding as much as it is now, but continue to increase funding for social and community based programs

 @93S66JLfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

I don't think all funding should be redirected but some, as police are abusing their rights to have weapons by using them only against people of colour

 @93RPFX5from Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Keep the funding for local police as it is, but find alternative funding sources for social and community based programs to help combat crime.

 @8VH43HFNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Maintain police departments and ensure funding for social programs as well

 @8TJ7N8Xfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but police should be held to a national standard that abides by human right laws and regulations

 @8THMKN6from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Redirect some of the funding, but not all of it. Still leaning to more funding or the police departments

  @8TFVW57New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase funding for mental health experts and social workers to work with police departments to help de-escalate mental health crises.

 @8TBBM5Yfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Spend funding reshaping the police system to reduce power imbalance instead of on militarization.

 @8SQ3DF4from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

maybe give half of the funding to social community and half to the police

 @8PJY6KHfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Social and community based programs should receive more funding but not from the police budget.

 @8P8TPVVfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Abolish police unions, demilitarize the police, redirect that funding to community and social programs, end qualified immunity and work on civilian watchdogs, police accountability, and community-based policing.
