Funding for social and community based programs should be taken off the workload for police and given their own budget to provide services needed.

 @8Q2GXXRfrom Pennsylvania  agreed…4yrs4Y

The number of cops who want that is staggering. Imagine if you spent 50% of your day responding to mentally ill people and therefore having no time to fight or stop major violent crimes like armed robberies, stabbings and shootings. The problem is we are also asking for bodycams and more training, and that requires more funding, which we don't have.

No, funding should social and community based programs should be done in coordination with police services.

 @B45YJHPNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4wks4W

Yes, we should have other levels of response for non-violent or mental health situations. But we could also attempt better screening & training to police officers for these situations

 @B29DVC3from Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

No, but it should be redirected internally within the police force to better education and community based tools

 @9L7D6G4from Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

No, rather funding should increase to provide extensive training to ensure our current and future Police workers can handle their great responsibility in a safe manner for everyone, especially for their own safety.

 @9F4FF8Mfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but It differs based on the area. Keep funding the police but at a fair amount.

 @8YVY7D5from Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes and the police need to be go through a screening process by professionals to see if they unfit for the job

 @8VTYQKFfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, reduce some of the funding for local police (while ensuring hiring and training standards are significantly increased and includes reoccurring mental health training) and redirect the remaining funds towards both establishing new and enhancing existing social and community based programs.

 @8VQJCVQfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Both areas should receive more funding if available. Police are important, as well as social/community programs.

 @8V7X4N7from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, increase funding for more training and implement heavier evaluations to reduce racism by police.

There should be an increase in funding for social and community-based programs, but we also need to increase police training and have community-based programs work closely with the police departments.

 @8SGX62Vfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, police departments should receive better training to handle non-violent situations with non-violence

 @8SD9CD4New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

funding to be slightly reduced from police departments and re directed to other departments such as education

 @8RN2J6Gfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Some funding should be redirected to social and community based programs, but you can't abolish the police.

Yes, provide more funds to social and community based responders. Yet, maintain a minimum amount of strength of police within our local communities

 @8PWB3F8New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Reallocate some funds from policing to invest in social workers, crisis intervention workers, etc. Still need police for addressing active threats of violence.

 @9BP5HVQfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

I think time and dollars should be committed to trying to eliminate as many issues as possible before it becomes a police issue but I taking funds from the police right away wouldn't help anyone until those are established.

 @99M2LRWfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, funding for those programs should be separate, it makes no sense to rob Peter to pay Paul

 @993FHHLfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

The police system was made to keep the city safe from criminals and other harmful things. However, many police officers are abusing their rights, for example, Shooting innocent people. Such as kids, elders. I think we should still fund the police, however it should come with strict rules and regulations, and any fail to obey these rules, deserve a consequence

 @8SD9G5Bfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but redirect the current funding from equipment to training and teaching
