“Defund the police” is a slogan that supports divesting funds from police departments and reallocating them to non-policing forms of public safety and community support, such as social services, youth services, housing, education, healthcare and other community resources.

Not all of the funding but there should be more going to social and community based programs and less to the police
@B386JBW 2mos2MO
Over policing doesn’t stop crime or fix the crime rate. There are issues with immigration, the judicial system ect. This is an important issue, but it’s more complex than the answers provide
@B35Q7K52mos2MO
Increase funding so police can do their jobs BUT provide teaching and rules to eliminate bias that leads to abuse of power against minority/native communties. Incident reviews and repurcussions should be determined by an outside source to prevent cover-ups
@B2SS7BF2mos2MO
Add funding for social programs, to reduce crime. Then more funding can be redirected from police services
@9ZDQ9FM5mos5MO
yes if the local police department s well staffed and established in the community, then any fund that isnt use to maintain the establishment running can be use toward community based program
@9XLTZWF6mos6MO
Crime prevention should just be refocusing and rehabilitated, it is less about budgeting and more about police prioritizing helping the community than patroling it.
@9WBH4S76mos6MO
I don't think we need to defund the police in order to fix social communities. I think we need to train out departments better
@9WB68F26mos6MO
Maintain police funding and ADD social and community based programs in collaboration with the police

There should be more funding for the police to have crisis intervention departments who respond calls involved with mental health crises who also have separate uniforms and are unarmed but still have restraint and deescalation training. This team should consist of social workers and psychotherapists as well as other types of crisis intervention type professions.
@9FKGKD42yrs2Y
Police departments should be funded according to the area of the police station (crime rates, etc)
@955L8YL3yrs3Y
Police are needed to prevent chaos, but training and social community based programs are also needed. An interdisceplinary approach is viable when training and funding is properly assigned.
@9536WQM3yrs3Y
Law enforcement should be better trained to handle Social non-violent calls, and have more responsibility /accountability for their actions.
@8TWP4DL4yrs4Y
Social and community based programs should be funded to coegsist along side of police. These programs should then take over for police in response to specific calls that fall under their umbrella, such as mental health and well being checks.
@8TV2H3B4yrs4Y
Both should be funded as equally as possible
@8TTG8T74yrs4Y
Both are equally important. The police can help solve problems when it’s too late to turn back, but social resources can aid people in getting help and prevent them from resorting to crime in the first place.
@8TPDHN84yrs4Y
There should be salaries for different types of policing - traffic vs beat cops for example and some money should be diverted for social workers
@8T3SBFT4yrs4Y
Yes, don't take all the funding but take some of the excess funds for social and community based programs
@8SN9TV44yrs4Y
Decrease budget ,by 20 % to social programs in the communityp
@8SGK9N74yrs4Y
Some funding can be allocated to other things but there should be funding for the police. And there should be investments in police reform and policy reviews within criminal justice.
Don't abolish or defund the police but make a system where non-violent crimes are handled by social experts and programs.
@99C6BCLConservative2yrs2Y
No set police budget @1.5X and have minimum requirements for community service
@9929M7N2yrs2Y
Reliable, trustworthy, proactive policing is part of a healthy and safe society. Proactive policing is most effective when other social programs to assist anyone in need (health care, food, shelter) are busy (and appropriately funded/staffed) too.
@98MNHWZ2yrs2Y
Yes, but only some of the police budget should go towards social and community based programs
@98CQBLH2yrs2Y
Yes, but put it towards helping understand culture and to not be racist.
