With strict background checks, physiological testing, and training that should be required for gun control, it proves that eligible candidates who have shown their competence to carry a gun will most likely use it in a responsible manner.

Training and background checks I agree, but most often we see gun violence committed by criminals in Canada using illegally obtained firearms.

I do not have a counter-argument: we do need both background check and safety training for any gun owner
While I may be in favor of firearms, I also understand the great weight there is to possession of a firearm. Violent criminals and the mentally unwell must be prevented from obtaining a gun as to prevent harm to others and themselves. This is also why training is important, as those unaware as to how to properly utilize a gun can cause grave harm to themselves, and those in their vicinity. That's why safety, handling, and maintenance training is vital, not just to obtain a gun, but for continual use when in someone's possession, as to keep their knowledge current, and to prevent slack.
Anyone can become a killer with or without a gun, but having easy access to a gun is a dangerous game.

With background checks and licensing in place, gun owners who pass said checks demonstrate competency and profiency in using said weapons.

We already do have extensive background checks and training in place. PAL holders are continuously background checked even after obtaining their PAL.
@9HMPBR81yr1Y
We already do have fairly strict requirements with our licensing. Licence holders get background checks daily

I never checked a box for that there should be some training a psychological training for gun owners.

There’s already so many restrictions. I am trying to get my licenses and it takes a long long time. It is good to be safe, though it gets to a point where you can do too much. There should still be proper testing though, especially proper training and use. Safety is extremely important.

No, people should have the right training and a background check (which should be able to be done in the firearms store) in order to buy a firearm.

Violent crimes involving a firearm in Canada are increasing, a new report by Statistics Canada suggests. According to the agency, there was an 8.9 per cent increase in firearm-related violent crimes(opens in a new tab) per 100,000 people in 2022. (CTV News) This shows that strict background checks are essential as it should not have increased crime rates because of guns on the loose.
@B29BNRD 3mos3MO
That was the status quo when I got my firearms license (save the psychological testing). Restricting access after the difficult licensing process is redundant and unnecessary.
