Many people need a job in order to maintain their family because they can't get another job. People need to understand that some people need the money and not just the experience.

 @9F8C8RZfrom Ontario  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Those stuck in minimum wage are unable to use that "experience" to further their socio economic position due to how minimum that wage is.

 @9FLVYGRfrom Quebec  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Most immigrants have to get a minimum wage job to support their family when they first arrive here with nothing.

 @9GK35CTfrom Manitoba  disagreed…1yr1Y

People do not necessarily have the education or certification required for higher-paying positions. They will be incapable of supporting themselves, considering high grocery and housing costs.

Minimum wage was originally the minimum amount of money a person should be paid in order to support a family.

only reason people get jobs is to afford life not for expierance there no point for expierance if they cant live off what they get

 @B3HSTR8from Ontario  disagreed…1mo1MO

Even if you think this is true, the reality is that many people who have a minimum wage job are supporting a family, and should not live in legislated poverty.

 @B3G3T93from Ontario  disagreed…1mo1MO

Just because it’s not a high skill job does not mean they shouldn’t be compensated fairly. Minimum wage jobs are not easy. Anyone who works in this country should have the means to raise a family with a partner and two kids.

 @B3DZRZHfrom Ontario  disagreed…1mo1MO

This puts a stronghold on families who cannot afford post secondary education which is a gateway to above minimum wage positions in this day and age. Many families living in poverty rely on minimum wage, not experience, to support their families.

 @B3D3SG9from Ontario  disagreed…1mo1MO

Many people are unable to afford higher education to get better job opportunities, so minimum wage jobs are all they are capable of securing

 @B3BRHCYConservativefrom Ohio  disagreed…1mo1MO

How are they supposed to garner experience if they don't even have enough money to pay rent for the month.

 @B35GWMQfrom Nova Scotia  disagreed…1mo1MO

No, because if your family is in need of money to pay taxes, you need to get that money so you can help them out.

 @B2VWNFCfrom Ontario  disagreed…2mos2MO

Some individuals and families only option is minimum wage. Based on their current financial and housing circumstances, it can be hard to find certain jobs.
Instead, jobs should offer higher pay for workers who have more experience and work ethic/discipline.

 @B2RY3B2from Ontario  disagreed…2mos2MO

most minimum wage earners dont have the choice of choosing to do a minimum wage job for the experience, meaning they have no choice and are stuck doing the job, if they have liabilities of a family to support they have to use their minimum wage job as their primary source of income.

 @B2RTYKSfrom Ontario  disagreed…2mos2MO

many minimum wage workers are adults supporting families, and the cost of living has increased, making it unrealistic to expect people to survive solely on experience. Minimum wage jobs should provide a livable wage that respects the dignity of the work being done.

 @B2M9PJNConservativefrom Alberta  disagreed…2mos2MO

Minimum wage was always, or at least, originally, the minimum money an individual can be able to make in order to support, or foster their family.

 @9WBCCZRNew Democraticfrom Saskatchewan  disagreed…6mos6MO

If we don’t want people trying to support a family on minimum wage; perhaps we should make post secondary education more affordable?

 @9LJM9VL from Manitoba  disagreed…12mos12MO

It is important to keep in mind that a large number of people, especially adults with families, depend on these employment as their primary source of income. Raising the minimum wage might help in giving employees a living pay and enhancing their financial security. Ensuring a fair salary for every person is important, no matter the reason behind their employment

 @9K3Q9Q5from British Columbia  disagreed…1yr1Y

Not everyone was able to get a good job and get the right amount of education growing up. Some people can only get minimum wage jobs. They should be able to support their families.

 @9H5JCH8Liberalfrom British Columbia  disagreed…1yr1Y

Some people don't get the chance to get a very high paying job based on there history that couldve happened years ago so the employer always just sees you as a bad person to work for their company

 @9GQ9V7Tfrom Ontario  disagreed…1yr1Y

Some people don't have the money to pay for higher education or time to go to school because bills are too high! How are people suposed to get higher education if they can't even pay rent?

 @9FS3HX5from Saskatchewan  disagreed…2yrs2Y

some people dont get the education they need to pursue a better career so they rely on minimum wage jobs to get them through but they cant support their family if its so low

Minimum wage as designed was to ensure that someone could meet all of their basic needs (food, housing, etc.) without relying on government assistance. Every person who works needs to have their needs met, so it is not only logical that their employer supplies the means to allow them to survive (and therefore continue to generate profit) but it also puts less strain on the government, and subsequently the taxpayers.

 @9F7TTQHfrom Ohio  disagreed…2yrs2Y

i think minimum wage should be hired after you have worked at a place for a year or two i believe you should get a raise, some people aren’t qualified enough to get a big 9-5 job but they have a family at home that they support

 @9RC7956from Nova Scotia  disagreed…9mos9MO

Companies are struggling to fill minimum wage positions because people do need to make an actual living to survive in the economy. This line of thinking is only really valid if you assume someone has ideal circumstances to get a several year start in the workplace without bankrupting themselves on rent, food, and other expenses.

The minimum wage was meant to ensure a livable income, and higher wages benefit the economy as it increases overall purchasing power.

Many typical minimum wage jobs such as coffee shops, grocery store clerks, and food prep etc require staffing during schooling hours by people who need to support themselves and their family instead of those trying to develop experience as a first job.

 @9FLPFS4from Saskatchewan  disagreed…2yrs2Y

People who have lower levels of education usualy struggle to find a job that can support them, let alone their family

 @9FLGCVHfrom Ontario  disagreed…2yrs2Y

With many basic necessities going up in price people working in lower class jobs cant provide for people.

 @9FL7G8Cfrom British Columbia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

most minimum wage jobs require more physical labour compared to other jobs and the reason for attaining this job should not be of concern because at the end of the a job is a job

 @9FKLW67from Ontario  disagreed…2yrs2Y

If we need the experience, why not just have schools give us opportunities for experience so you can get a job to support yourself and loved ones as soon as you finish school.

 @9FKJS6Ffrom Ontario  disagreed…2yrs2Y

minimum wage jobs are still jobs. people need to be able to live off their job and a the bare minimum be able to support themselves

 @9F7ZSY3from Ontario  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Some people are unqualified to get a real job but must support a family. If they increase minimum wage that person earns experience and can still support their family

 @9GYBKDPfrom Ontario  disagreed…1yr1Y

I believe this is true, but also a lot of families do have to live off the life of a minimum wage working family. Which is okay.

 @9FNMQKLLiberalfrom Ontario  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Some people miight need that extra money to pay for their families. Even if their families are not poor.

 @9FBCT87from Ontario  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Minimum wage workers should not be paided less for doing a job that a high educated person doesn't do because that does not make them less of a person.
