Neither, turn the Senate into a appointed non-partisan technocracy, where Canadians who are the experts in certain areas serve and advise parliament.

Direct democracy over "representation". I don't feel any representation with the current govt. And too much corruption

 @9ZVPFDRfrom Rhode Island  answered…4wks4W

Keep the senate mostly as is but allow the government to bypass the senate if a bill doesn’t pass within a year

 @9ZS96WWfrom Ontario  answered…4wks4W

Abolish but create two new sector of the government for provincial and territory representation and the other to look over the bills to give the senate less power.

Every province gets 10 senators, appointed by the provincial legislature. That way then the electorate changes it's will at a provincial election they can change the makeup of the federal government.

Elect, and make the appointment of senators correspond to the proportion of the popular vote for each party.

 @9RBY3RCfrom Nova Scotia  answered…5mos5MO

Far too tricky to answer as a singular person. Lots of potential for good and bad can come from it. non-partisan is impossible. Corruption will find its own way. Maybe focusing on a way to greater punish the corruption.

Abolish the Senate as it presently exists and eliminate ALL pensions to senators. The senate should be a regionally elected body similar to the US in that all provinces and territories get two senators, regardless of population. In addition, those running for election must get 50.1% of the entire vote in order to be elected. Multiple parties and candidates may necessitate run off elections whereby candidate receiving less than a threshold number of votes; say 15%, 20 or 25% are eliminated from the next round. Same goes for electing the rats that are presently seated. They must achieve…  Read more

The entire government should be reorganized into a Constitutional Republic with an elected head of state, elected MPs, and senators who serve 6 year terms, 33% of whom are up for election every 2 years.

 @9G5RCDKfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

I think the senate is still necessary, just in case but we do need to have more strict rules for them so people actually show up and aren’t just using it for money because it’s costing Canada a lot.

 @9FXZGWTfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

The people should elect the Senators, just as they elect the representatives. The government should reflect and serve the will of the people.

 @9F9YT9Gfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

 @9F5KMPVfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Abolish the Senate. The senate has no place in the government as they are not elected. It is wrong to have had picked appointed Senate. If the Senate has to exist the public should vote them in.

I certainly like the idea that Senators should be non-partisan. I am rather neutral on whether Senators should be elected or not, but I do definitely think that there should be stricter standards one way or another to determine who gets to sit in the Senate.
