In 2016 the International Olympic committee ruled that transgender athletes can compete in the Olympics without undergoing sex reassignment surgery. In 2018 the International Association of Athletics Federations, track’s governing body, ruled that women who have more than 5 nano-mols per liter of testosterone in their blood—like South African sprinter and Olympic gold medalist Caster Semenya—must either compete against men, or take medication to reduce their natural testosterone levels. The IAAF stated that women in the five-plus category have a “difference of sexual…

These active users have achieved a basic understanding of terms and definitions related to the topic of Transgender Athletes
@8C97BVPNew Democratic5yrs5Y
Athletes should not be divided by gender but instead divided by their weight, height, muscle mass, etc.
@8CW6SXRNew Democratic5yrs5Y
Yes, but some athletic organizations need to reassess how athletes are categorized to ensure safety and fairness for all.
@8PW9SHK4yrs4Y
Except there's absolutely no evidence that allowing trans women in sports leads to more injury; the evidence usually cited is that Fallon Fox injured another fighter, but serious injuries are not uncommon in martial sports, and many women have been injured and in some cases killed even when no trans women were present.
@9G2QFBDNew Democratic2yrs2Y
They should look into other ways to categorize athletes besides gender/sex if in the eyes of those they decide, gender and sex entail a set of specific differences. Perhaps weight class, hormones etc. Should be individually considered outside of gender and sex as these physical differences exists and vary amongst these categories regardless, so to limit someone if they’re transgender based on that principle wouldn’t be entirely preventing biological difference
@9FX7X7KNew Democratic2yrs2Y
No, but there should be new categories that benefit transgender athletes, like transgender men categories and transgender women categories, that way everyone can perform.
@9D4YVYKNew Democratic2yrs2Y
We should remove the gendered aspect of competitive sports somewhat to focus more on skill category than gender. This also allows a better inclusion of non-binary and otherwise gender-diverse people in sports.
@8TYLF9YNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Yes, but only in a separate category for transgender athletes
@8TX9HRLNew Democratic4yrs4Y
women can join the men league but not the opposite
@8TVX24MNew Democratic4yrs4Y
@8HGXPCZNew Democratic5yrs5Y
Yes, And create MTF and FTM Catagories
@9W58D5GNew Democratic6mos6MO
I feel like transgender athletes have every right to compete. However, we need to make time to decide on new regulations/rules in order to move forward.
@8VVRLT8New Democratic4yrs4Y
Separate events and leagues for trans atheletes
@8VRQ3BYNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Yes, based on analysis of physical risk to the competing team/person.
@8VHS7XNNew Democratic4yrs4Y
yes but we should eliminate separating people by gender and bring in separating people by weight class
@8VCVX43New Democratic4yrs4Y
In a transgender division
@8VB3475New Democratic4yrs4Y
Yes but only against other transgendered persons
@8TW2XXJNew Democratic4yrs4Y
This choice should be left to individual leagues, and not government.
@8TVC9W3New Democratic4yrs4Y
Yes, and there should be trans-specific gender categories in sports
@8RBFMCKNew Democratic4yrs4Y
case-by-case and sport-by-sport basis
@8QXR442New Democratic4yrs4Y
to an extent, they should but maybe not in major things like the Olympics
@8QDRPS8New Democratic4yrs4Y
No, because usually transgenders convert such external appearance and organs but the internal power and capabilities remain and tend to the original gender either male or female.
@8Q6C9V8New Democratic4yrs4Y
Transgender athletes should be able to compete with cis-males.
@8HVRHCPNew Democratic5yrs5Y
It's a case by case basis
@9CM7BFCNew Democratic2yrs2Y
Yes, and it should be dealt with/regulated on a case to case basis
@99GCM75New Democratic2yrs2Y
Yes, and gender separation in sports should be ended.
@98SL5S5New Democratic2yrs2Y
Yes, and if we categorize based on hormone levels then we should have all categories based off hormone levels rather than sex
@94QZMZ4New Democratic3yrs3Y
Transgender women (Male to female) should not be able to compete in womens athletics
@8V7CBJQNew Democratic4yrs4Y
yes, however, there may need to be a separate set of games or category. M to F seem to be stronger then cis gender females.
@96CJFM3New Democratic3yrs3Y
Categorization should be based on hormone level exclusively and gender should be irrelevant.
@925JSC3New Democratic3yrs3Y
Create new categories for them to compete in (like weight classes in boxing) which comes with the side bonus of meeting other people going through the same thing, while promoting social bonds and the development of social skills. This would require some funding for transportation and facility rental.
@8Z2Q8HKNew Democratic3yrs3Y
Tricky. Yes in general, but no in sports where physical contact or physical prowess is predominant
@8YZCDBRNew Democratic3yrs3Y
Have a transgender league
@8YP3NYLNew Democratic3yrs3Y
It's more complicated than this and needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis. A transgender woman athlete who's been on HRT since puberty cannot be evaluated the same as a transgender woman athlete who started HRT at 25.
@8X6PZPCNew Democratic3yrs3Y
This question does not yet have an answer in my opinion.
@8XZCH8R3yrs3Y
Their should be a trans league instead or only if their hormone levels are equivalent to those in the gender catergory which they want to compete
@8Y5H9DW3yrs3Y
Yes, athletic competition is unfair by nature as it is naturally fuelled not only by training (controllable) but also by biology (uncontrollable). Extremes are present even within the sexes. Athletics should be separated not by gender or sex, but by skill.
@93RQL4H3yrs3Y
Who cares. It's sports. Just make everything unisex.
@8QDSNZY4yrs4Y
Yes, as long as they pass the same tests that sis gendered people must pass
@7PTCG383yrs3Y
No, a separate category should be created in which transgender athletes compete against other transgender athletes of their current sex
@7PTCG384yrs4Y
Yes, if they are over the age of 18 and their hormone levels are equivalent to those in the gender category in which they compete. Individuals under the age of 18 should compete based on the biological sex that is listed on their birth certificate
@2GB8K924yrs4Y
Yes, and end sexual segregation of sports (ie don't have men's leagues and women's leagues, have one league inclusive of all genders)
@8P8MHKS3yrs3Y
Generally not, but this will depend on the nature of the individuals transition to a different gender.
@8XNRYWL3yrs3Y
Yes, but inly if the bone density is equivalent to those in the gender category in which they compete.
@8S2LJ244yrs4Y
Transgender athletes should have their own trans category.
@8RJ7L484yrs4Y
@534YSQG5yrs5Y
Yes, and the separation of gender/sex in sports is sexist and unnecessary. There are plenty of women athletes that perform better than men but are held to different standards that change how their accomplishments are viewed.
@8PSZWPL4yrs4Y
Yes, Sports shouldn’t be categorized by sex
@8QDGPDL4yrs4Y
Transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in their own league at more competitive levels. For things like school sports they should be allowed to compete.
@VikkiRoxxOk3yrs3Y
Start their own transgender competitions and leagues.
@558YLXV3yrs3Y
Individual athletic organizations should come up with their own rules on how to allow transgender athletes to participate without giving them an unfair advantage/disadvantage. The governing bodies should also have oversight committees to ensure no individual or class of athlete is unfairly burdened by these rules or policies.
@558YLXV5yrs5Y
Individual athletic organizations should come up with their own rules on how to allow transgender athletes to participate without giving them an unfair advantage/disadvantage.
@8W9KX2R4yrs4Y
No, unless they have mostly the same physical stats as the people they are competing with
