Judges in the U.S. are required to base their sentences on the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, mandatory minimum sentencing laws, or both. In 1986 the U.S. Congress passed the Anti-Drug Abuse Act which enacted new mandatory minimum sentences for drugs. People caught with 5 grams of crack cocaine were given jail sentences of 5 years without parole (the same sentence as people caught with 500 grams). @8KH79S24yrs4Y
No unless violence or crime is committed.
@LangworthyUS9th4yrs4Y
No we have to stop incarcerating people for drug possession. We should order them to treatment. We don't jail people for alcohol problems. Just because the substance someone has a problem with is a banned substance that isnt right to send them to jail. We must do all we can to stop drugs from coming into our country. We must prosecute drug traffickers as well.
@8KR59WM4yrs4Y
it depends on the drugs caught with us
