Mandatory minimum sentences are automatic, minimum prison terms set by Congress. Judges in the U.S. are required to base their sentences on the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, mandatory minimum sentencing laws, or both. Yes, for dealers. Those who have been caught using should be required by state to get clean and stay clean for 5 years. Other laws should be put in place for not following the protocol and/or relapsing after the 5 years

I think drugs like marijuana should not result in jail time. Maybe more harmful drugs like meth and heroine should result in jail time/rehab. If you are supplying harmful drugs like heroine you should be put in jail because they are highly addictive and it could result in deaths.

I believe instead of putting people charged with drug posession in jail and then letting them out, programs should be in place in jail so that they can become clean and never have to go back, reducing overcrowding over time.
