While I am against drugs, all drugs, it is something unmentioned by the constitution. drug usage should be left up to the states to decide what to be done- personally I don't think non-violent drug users should be imprisoned.

 @8QMD4XF from California  answered…4yrs4Y

Well, I'm not really sure but I believe it really just depends on what kinds of drugs and what the drugs made the person do.

 @8QJ3RY4answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only if the drugs exceed a certain weight to determine whether or not the person had intent to distribute.

  Deletedanswered…3yrs3Y

No, unless a violent crime is committed and if so punitive measures should be related to the violent crime and not drug possession; certain offenders would be better suited to lighter sentences and rehabilitation.

 @9334YP3answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but it should be significantly longer for drug dealers than for drug users.

No, people need rehabilitation, not to be thrown in jail like an animal, unless they are dealing illegally.

 @8LXS3WGanswered…4yrs4Y

I think that minimum time in prison should only be done if its not a REAL problem, but if someone actually needs help and are addicted then i think that they should be provided the help they need with a VERY SMALL fee. But if the person is a well-known or just a drug dealer, then i do think they should be in prison for a bit longer, depending on their popularity.

 @heatherdvdprincessanswered…3yrs3Y

No, and prisons should be reformed to reform prisoners. Give non-violent offenders work to do that they can use once they get out of prison, and have them live with and work for a family that is a good example to them. Their time is done after 7 years.

 @8DD2TCY from Georgia  answered…5yrs5Y

I think they should be taken to places that will help with their mental health, instead of to prison.

Yes, but the sentence needs to be done correctly and stop imposing longer sentences to drug users. Instead of letting them rot in a cell, they should be better suited to lighter sentences and rehabilitation, so this will decrease incarceration rates and there will be more spaces for violent criminals. Only impose minimum sentences for drug dealers and those who commit violent crimes.

 @8KRJQFXanswered…4yrs4Y

That is highly dependent on the context of the situation. As there are excusable circumstances.

 @8LNMGF7answered…4yrs4Y

No, because in some cases People could be innocent or mislead and deserve a second chance, but if the crime is committed over and over then yes eventually that will have to be the consequence.

 @8MF7P7Canswered…4yrs4Y

It really depends on the situation and the type of drugs and if it was being purchased from them.

 @8MNJHTXanswered…4yrs4Y

I think that they should not get arrested for having drugs they should only get arrested for doing drugs

 @8MNYGHJanswered…4yrs4Y

A manditory sentance should be decided based on the drug and the amount. A person convicted of 5 grams of meth should have a lesser sentence that a person convicted of 10 grams of cocaine.
