The flag of Canada represents colonialism, indigenous genocide, slavery, oppression, and war, and the only reason it isn't looked at that way is because it is still in use, people in Germany don't see the nazi flag and think of anything other than the holocaust, so why should it be different for the flags of Canada, the UK, the United States, France, Spain, and Portugal? Plus, regardless of whether or not you see the flags of countries that were built off of slavery and genocide as inherently bad, it would still be a violation of free speach to make it a crime to burn the flag, and it would set the ground works for fascism and authoritarianism.
a flag is a piece of cloth sure but it has a bigger purpose. its made to show a country's power and pride.

i think it pride that we are in Canada and we have to respect our culture and flag there should be serious penalty for the same.

The flag is the representation of this country so burning it is unpatriotic and should be illegal. It isn’t just a piece of cloth.
