I agree that many government officials make too much money compared to the people of Canada, and support a reduction. However I don't believe a "drastic " reduction would be encourage top talent.
I do think that a reduction at this time would increase faith and trust of the people when so much of the population is struggling.

I honestly don't care enough about the government to have an opinion, but if I had to then... Reducing the salaries of the government officials will cause them to care less about what they are doing, than they do already. Reducing their benefits and salaries will mean that they will no longer care about the people.

Cutting the pay and benefits of government officials might seem like a good way to save money, but it wouldn’t actually make a big difference in the overall budget. Their salaries are just a small part of what the government spends. Also, if the pay is too low, it could be hard to find smart and experienced people who want to work in government. This could lead to poor decisions or mistakes that cost even more money.
