Depends on whether or not they are at high-risk of reoffending. If yes, they are at high risk of re-offending then absolutely not. More prisons should be built or more skill building services should be offered within prisons.

Yes, but on certain conditions of rehabilitation and the type of crime must be taken into account

 @8VKZTD3from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Depending on the type of crime they’ve committed and whether they are still a risk to reoffend

 @8V9HNX6from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TWLVQ3from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

This would entirely depend on the situation and charge of each prisoner

 @8SDFHJ4from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes they should be released but with monthly check ins and monitoring of their activity

 @8QFCQGTNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8NNSR4HLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes and they should be sent to a rehabilitation centres that offer therapy, skill building, education, etc.

 @8NBJKHQfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes but have them perform community service for 2 months and attend a counselling program for 1 month (1 session per week).

 @8LTDV5Cfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but place them under house arrest using an electronic bracelet, until further notice which would be made by a court system

 @8KK5RT8from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Only if they aren’t pedophiles or rapists. Those people don’t change.

 @8K3HRDLfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, if proper rehabilitation steps were taken so the individual could be a functional member of society.

only if the criminal is placed under watch for a few years after. if said criminal commits another crime, then put them back.

The prisoners should get support to help them with issues of why they got to prison in the first place. Mental health? Poor socio-economic class? Lack of education? Drugs?

 @8JHT377from British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

It depends on the crime, people who didn't commit a violent crime could still be dangerous. It should depend on the crime, the criminals charges need to be assessed. This is not a simple yes or no, most crimes are not simple yes or no. IT IS NOT BLACK AND WHITE

 @8HSQLR5from Ontario  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes they should be released, but not to reduce overcrowding, they should be released to be rehabilitated

 @8HCWNSRfrom Alberta  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8H6JLM3from Quebec  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but provide mandatory rehabilitation for those serving outside of a prison facility.

 @8GBDQ68Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…5yrs5Y

depends on the crime they committed before hand to get them put in jail.

 @8G4TDTYLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…5yrs5Y

Instead of prisons, there should be rehabilitation based off of the crime

 @8FLLTZZfrom Ontario  answered…5yrs5Y

No, we should just build more prisons but if we need too then do house arrest and then do community service on a daily basis.

 @8F5PK2Sfrom British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

Need a better understanding of the question, someone who utters threats could be seen as 'non-violent' but I would categorize them as violent and wouldnt want them released. Others with non violent I would see released but with community service quotas and mandatory PO check-ins

 @8F2BHV7from British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

They should be put in a rehabilitation program to re-integrate them into society.

If the prisoners did not commit a felony then yes they should be release, and they must serve community service twice a week

 @8C4S3KJfrom British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, and they should be rehabilitated and help out of the system that put them in the cercumstance they were in in the first place.

 @8VPBX7TNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but develop more rehabilitation programs for non-violent offenders to prevent reoffending

 @8QRTXB7from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Depending on the crime they should be allowed to live out in the world but have some sort of check in.

 @8NJ4NK5from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Offences that at minor as well as non violent Prisoners should be released after a set time if well behaved

 @8JRM9DFfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

I think they should be released by with a lot of supports. Most people don't commit crimes because they want to be criminals, they commit crimes out of desperation. If they had resources, supports, retraining, optional relocation, etc., it would be better for society to have more people contributing to communities in a positive way than in prison.

The real reason that overcrowding is a problem in prisons is because the prison system is privatized and for-profit. We need to stop unnecessary mandatory minimums and the disproportional incarceration of Black Americans.

 @8PWXW4S from Oregon  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8ZPHR88 from Colorado  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but we should abolish the current prison system in favor of restorative justice system.
