Terrible example given up above and misleading. For legally-entering immigrants, yes they should be deported if they commit a serious crime.

If it is safe for them to return to their country then they can go back after committing a serious crime to serve their sentence, but if that's not the case they should be able to serve their sentence here.

If they are a citizen then no, but if they do not have a citizenship they should complete their sentence then be deported.
