Should immigrants be deported if they commit a serious crime?

In 2015 the U.S. House of Representatives introduced the Establishing Mandatory Minimums for Illegal Reentry Act of 2015 (Kate’s Law.) The law was introduced after San Francisco 32 year old San Francisco resident Kathryn Steinle was shot and killed by Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez on July 1, 2015. Lopez-Sanchez was an illegal immigrant from Mexico who had been deported on five separate occasions since 1991 and been charged with seven felony convictions. Yes, after they serve their sentence. However, if their conditions are worse in their home country then our jails, send them back. Immigrants can just kill people to get jailed in better conditions here then their country...

A foreign national can be ordered deported if convicted of a serious crime. A foreign national can also be deported for a less serious crime, or because of 2 convictions for even relatively minor crimes arising out of separate incidents.

No. Even if immigrants commit serious crimes, they are still members of our community, and should be treated like everyone else.

Maybe, if it is safe for them to go back to their country and the crime is VERY serious. But for the most part, no, because their home is in Canada now.

If an immigrants commit a serious crime they should not be deported, but they should serve their sentence in Canada.

It depends on the crime, violent crimes should get them deported, petty crimes should not.
