If they are citizens of Canada they should be tried as Canadians, if they are not yet they should be deported unless they won't be safe in their home country (ie. they are of an identity that will face persecution, they are personally at risk if they return, or if the punishment for their crime would be inhuman such as torture or the death penalty.)
Only for terrorist attacks.
@925JXGR3yrs3Y
As long as they're not a Canadian citizen and the crime is a serious one
@8YZ46R53yrs3Y
Treat them the same as Canadians.
@8VNWXZ24yrs4Y
Yes, as long as it is safe to do so and only if the crime was murder.
@8VKF4694yrs4Y
Only if they have not served any time for their crime
@8V8Y5QLNew Democratic4yrs4Y
If it is safe to enter their own country, but also depending on the crime. People who have committed more severe crimes that pose a larger threat to Canadian safety should be deported, but illegal immigrants should not be.
@8V8G7TF4yrs4Y
Yes, if it is safe for them to return and the individual circumstances of the offence are actually serious (not just deemed indictable for immigration purposes when they’re actually hybrid offences that proceeded summarily in criminal court)
@8V5DYM74yrs4Y
If we had implements in place to aid the immigrants that the government itself approves to enter to country this wouldn't be an issue in the first place.
@8V3FQ7B4yrs4Y
Only if they never had citizenship and it is safe for them to return to their country of origin. If they are citizens then they should be imprisoned in Canada.
@8TXY7BL4yrs4Y
Sometimes, and particularly of they are not yet citizens.
@8T47Z2P4yrs4Y
I think so only only if it is extremely serious where it harms plenty of Canadian citizens
@8SRQFFDNew Democratic4yrs4Y
No, if they are an official citizen then they receive punishment given by Canadian law
@8SG8RBC4yrs4Y
There must be a bench mark of how serious the crime is. If it passes it, then the person must be deported
@8SD43Z64yrs4Y
yes and no. although it still depends on the records of the individual
@8RN4KTT4yrs4Y
Only if they're not permanent residents.
@8RDRC964yrs4Y
Only if the crime is violent, sexual, or a hate crime.
@8QRWMGY4yrs4Y
Only if it is a sexual or violent crime such as homicide
@8PZDRSH4yrs4Y
Case by case basis to be determined in a court of law
@8PQSYFV4yrs4Y
No, they should serve their time or take whatever penalties any other Canadian would receive.
@8J8TFDJ4yrs4Y
depends on the severity of the crime, how long they've been in canada and how safe it is for them to return
I believe they should serve their sentence here in Canada because they are a citizen here now. Deporting them wouldn’t make sense because they need to face the consequences of their actions.
@9C7LBXWNew Democratic2yrs2Y
No, they should be treated the same as other citizens
@9C2JMT92yrs2Y
Immigrants are committing serious crimes enough for this to even be a question
@98XJ7KQ2yrs2Y
It depends on how long they've been in the country. Some people came here from a very young age and are a product of Canada's environment and not their country of origin.
@98TMH362yrs2Y
No, only if they have entered the country illegally and have finished serving their sentence
@9863HW42yrs2Y
Did the person steal a candy bar or a child? There’s a difference
Depending on the type of the crime
@8KSPPR94yrs4Y
Yes, if it’s safe for them to return to their country and they entered Canada illegally
@7PTCG384yrs4Y
Yes, if they have entered the country illegally and committed a felony or felonies
@7PTCG385yrs5Y
No, only if they have entered the country illegally and committed a violent felony or trafficked cartels of the most lethal drugs.
@53QWCVJ5yrs5Y
If they applied for citizenship, or are not a citizen, then deport them immediately.
@8QFCFP74yrs4Y
No, rehabilitate them and give them a path to citizenship
@7PTCG384yrs4Y
Yes, only for felonies of a violent nature
@7PTCG384yrs4Y
Yes, if they have entered the country illegally and committed felonies of a violent nature
@7PTCG385yrs5Y
No, only if they have entered the country illegally and committed a violent felony or trafficked cartels of the most lethal drugs
