Just verbally saying you understand and consent does not imply that this mental/physiological state of being is immutable. Many people have last minute “changes of heart/mind” especially when the decisions involve something significant or the person experiences a near death experience.

We shouldn’t be allowing our citizens to give up on their lives. We should rather invest money into social services to help support that person instead of allowing them to give up on life.

Even if they fully understand the terms of euthanasia and are in their right mind, it is selfish and horrific that medical professionals want to carry out someone's death just because they "can't take it anymore" and "want to die". Death should be natural. Our bodies respond to health complications the way that they should.
