Yes, but it should be 18 months in military, social or environmental services and waived for those pursuing post secondary education

It would still be on a voluntary basis except for criminals who wish to integrate back into society and people who do not pursue further education or employment. So my answer is yes but with conditions and it should a minimum of two years of military service to get an option for an honourable discharge.

No. I do agree with service should be a choice and not an obligation but I would like to add that not everyone has the mindset of a soldier and those forced into it might find themselves adding to the already too high list of depression cases or worse.

A minimum of two years of some form of military or civil service should be mandated to young men starting at the age of 18.
