Statistically it would be better to increase military spending to have a stronger military, don't you agree.

 @9GH9DKFfrom Alberta  agreed…1yr1Y

Our military is crippled with the lack of equipment and personnel. Without more spending, we are opening ourselves to threats from other countries.

 @9GDR749from Ontario  agreed…1yr1Y

It is important that we stand by our NATO commitments and meet the targets we promised to enter the alliance. This is a requirement to be a member of NATO. With the situation in Russia and Ukraine and the Arctic we need to maintain our standing with NATO and meet our commitments. One example where we could use this money is we haven't updated our NORAD Arctic defense radars since 1989. Another example of outdated equipment in our military is our fighter aircraft which entered service in 1982 and has received modernization but is coming to the end of its life cycle. Our dependence on these aircraft is very high, we depend on them to intercept in our airspace and in the Arctic, they are very important.

Canada has a long and proud history of being elite fighters, and it would ensure protection without the reliance of our allies.

 @B395Z3Rfrom Ontario  agreed…1mo1MO

Let's say the U.S. is planning on invading Canada, we do not have any preparation for such an invasion whatsoever. Along with nuclear weapons, the U.S. has one of the strongest militaries possible. Canada on the other hand does not. If we increase military spending and help shape our army to be better, we'd have a better chance of winning such wars and invasions.

 @B2SCWX4from Ontario  agreed…2mos2MO

Our military is outdated, and we have almost nobody enlisting so we need to create better incentives to join.

 @B239LHYfrom Alberta  agreed…4mos4MO

To compete with some countries that threaten our country with tensions rising around the world we need to be able to protect ourselves and stay in unions, and agreements with countries. If we protect ourselves we will see a better Canadian economy.

 @9ZXDTJ4from Ontario  disagreed…4mos4MO

We have America as allies, I doubt there will be another world war, and it's not like countries such as Canada and America are really turning the tide in present conflicts, so what's the point of increasing money on the military.

 @9ZNZ6PZfrom Ontario  disagreed…5mos5MO

We need to take care of our citizens first. Health care is awful in this country, housing is in crisis.

 @9K94YTCfrom New Brunswick  agreed…1yr1Y

We continue to support the independence of other countries however our own military cannot enforce our northern sea passage

 @9HDHKN4from Alberta  disagreed…1yr1Y

how many homeless people live on the streets in Canada? how many people go hungry every night in Canada? how many reservations don't have proper funding and clean drinking water? why do we need increase militarily spending when we can be using it to better our society and our economy by providing more jobs and encouraging the misfortunate rather than dehumanizing them

 @9H4Y24Rfrom Ontario  agreed…1yr1Y

Canada has a very weak military and could be taken down by most militaries on the planet. The US will not defend us that is why we should grow our military.

 @9H24J24Conservativefrom Ontario  agreed…1yr1Y

We need to increase military spending as global tensions are rising and if we do not we could be crushed under the weight of a stronger power like china or north Korea.

 @9GZFFHRfrom Alberta  agreed…1yr1Y

To start, Canada has been below our promised 2% of our GDP on military spending with NATO for years now, much to international criticism, so we should be meeting that as the bare minimum. But for us personally as a country, I believe that even that percentage is not enough. Canada has the longest coastline in the world, and it just so happens that we also sit right across from our number one biggest threat, a threat that patrols our north regularly with no consequence as we just sit and watch. Our navy is severely lacking, and pitiful. By far the number one most important thing we need to do…  Read more

The canadian military is still operating old german tanks and are air force3 is close to a joke and in this era all parts of military should be taken seriously

 @9GLF9GVfrom Alberta  disagreed…1yr1Y

We need to be the best fighting force ever and Canada cannot afford to cheap out on the military training

 @9FTVSMRfrom Ontario  agreed…2yrs2Y

This power acts as a deterrent for aggressors. In the absence of military spending, opponents may view the nation as a soft target. Even though local defense spending may be more expensive, it creates more value in the form of more robust national security and fewer disruptions to trade and commerce. If the defense system of a country is fully integrated, there are economic benefits to it.

 @9FNLBC8from Ontario  agreed…2yrs2Y

If we spend more money on military grade weapons no country would want to match with us because were that powerful.

 @9FNK3YQfrom Ontario  agreed…2yrs2Y

The fight for your country and have to livve with things like scars, and battle wounds for the rest of there lives they desrve this

 @9FF5V67from Ontario  agreed…2yrs2Y

The United States consistently ranks as the world's top spender on defense. In 2020, the U.S. spent approximately $778 billion on defense, according to SIPRI data.

 @9FR95LZfrom Ontario  disagreed…2yrs2Y

I think the government should prioritize education and health care because investing on military is almost pointless when no one is willing to attack us because we have the biggest army in the world (U.S.A) as one of our alies.

 @9FQ5KS8from Ontario  agreed…2yrs2Y

Self evident...we have a NATO commitment of 2% GDP for defence. Why should NATO protect us against our enemies if we don't have the capability to defend ourselves as we have committed to?

 @9FPRBKGfrom Ontario  agreed…2yrs2Y

Canada lacks adequate ships and aircraft to defend its territory, frequently has to rely on aid from the British and Americans to protect us in the north as we lack nuclear submarines, icebreakers etc to effectively survey the waters.

 @9FPD7LQLiberalfrom Ontario  agreed…2yrs2Y

as the years go, more and more technology are being created. This means military funding should go up to keep up with the new military technology coming in.

 @B2YJZ2Bfrom Ontario  agreed…2mos2MO

Increasing our military spending in Canada will show Donald J. Trump that we are a sovereign nation who does not want to be apart of the United States.

We need to increase spending to ramp up recruiting. Our equipment is in need of maintenance and upgrade. Our troops need to be able to train and to train they need ammunition, rations, good equipment, better uniforms, etc. Our northern territories are exposed. The Canadian rangers need more resources and an actual base in each northern territory, and not just in Yellowknife, Iqaluit, and Whitehorse. We need to ramp up North West Passage patrols. It's embarrassing that China has been flying recon balloons in our territory and we had to ask America to shoot them down. Our ability to protect ourselves and our northern sovereignty has become a joke and the great members of our military deserve better.

 @B32GQTD from New Brunswick  agreed…2mos2MO

We need to have a better military as we can create a stronger economy and have more power so if the United States decides they want to begin war we can fight back

With the worsening of global climate change, we need a response force to natural disasters, if we have a military that hates us and can't afford in the place where they're stationed what's making them stay in the forces?

When considering the current events in Ukraine and the heightened concerns in the Indo-Pacific region, national security needs to become a higher priority. We cannot solely depend on the United States to protect us, their last president has demonstrated that this would be a mistake. Canada needs to invest more in National security.

 @9GBD2J6from Alberta  agreed…1yr1Y

so canada can have more independant protection and not have to rely on being the nice easygoing country that will get stepped on

 @9FW58PBfrom Ontario  agreed…1yr1Y

for example, if Canada was invaded and taken over, we could all be living under a dictatorship, that wouldn't happen if we had a strong military.
