President Obama recently declared that the U.S. will accept 10,000 refugees from Syria. The U.S. has been under pressure from its Syrian allies to help out with the crisis in which 3 Million refugees have fled Syria in the past year. Those in favor of accepting refugees believe that the U.S. has a duty to join its allies in Europe and accept at least 10,000 refugees. Opponents argue that the U.S. should stay out of this crisis and accepting refugees from the Middle East leads to a risk of letting terrorists into our borders.

Absolutely STOP!!! this immediately. We have enough issues with looking after our own health care, education and the elderly. What about the non-affordable housing issues in Vancouver, Toronto etc? We have so many reasons to stop giving so MUCH MONEY to importing refugees. We have so many homeless youth. We have so many people that have addiction problems and so much mental illness. Stop giving our tax money away now!!! Use it here in Canada. Let's clean up our own backyard.
@8SJ7TJZ4yrs4Y
right now, Canada needs to focus on the current residents, citizens before bringing in more - doesnt matter the country
@8Q5X7HR4yrs4Y
We need to be more strict who we let in.
@8GHXH9H4yrs4Y
Refugees from many nations should be accepted.
@8FF2FN85yrs5Y
let the ones who are in the country stay but don't let anymore in.
@8VDD65L4yrs4Y
Yes but if they say on aide social more then 2 years kick the out
@8TZ82WHConservative4yrs4Y
No The people of Canada should come first. Not the refugees.
@8S9JMB5Conservative4yrs4Y
Fix the problems in Canada before accepting other people in
@8PP7PS24yrs4Y
Fix domestic problems first then worry about immigration
@968NFQD2yrs2Y
We should accept them because they are an equal human being but still be careful and make sure they follow the rules
@966HTFX3yrs3Y
Yes, but thoroughly check their background and limit the amount accepted.
@963SWNL3yrs3Y
depends on if we have to many jobs for the amount of people we have. or not enough homes for the people we already have.
@962GV76Conservative3yrs3Y
Yes but if they have a criminal record then deny them.
@95Z6WZ43yrs3Y
we should evaluate them and see what use to the economy they can have
@95R4XJ23yrs3Y
YES, but it have to do the same all human begin not by nationality, but needs.
@95PHQTC3yrs3Y
They are filling Canada with immigrants so no one notices population collapse
@95M658G3yrs3Y
yes but after a background check just to make sure everything is okay.
@95JHYPC3yrs3Y
Everyone coming into the country should have background checks
@95GVTWV3yrs3Y
No because currently Canada is dealing with a housing crisis and healthcare crisis, country lacks the foundation support refugees when Canadians are suffering.
@95GVQ4H3yrs3Y
Yes, they should. Canada should also be able to make sure that the refugees take care of themselves in a way as well, Refugees shouldn't depend on all on Canada to help them.
@95FFWMQ3yrs3Y
Yes, but do a background check. Once they have passed a background check, they should be free to enter without any restrictions or monitoring. They are refugees, not criminals.
@95DCX88New Democratic3yrs3Y
Yes, but less than 10,000 proposed.
@956NLV73yrs3Y
They could be secret terrorists/spys so no
@944QJ2P3yrs3Y
Yes, but we must actively remove all of our troops stationed overseas. Scale back the military.
@93WH4G7Conservative3yrs3Y
Canada can barely support the citizens we have now. We don't need anymore people to come. The government should focus on providing for those who are already here; citizens of Canada and their well-being.
@93V562Y3yrs3Y
Yes, but we sould take every precaution to make sure it's safe.
@93T8BYB3yrs3Y
No more refugees until the housing crisis and inflation issues are addressed and in a better place
@93S66JL3yrs3Y
Yes, but not anyone who has been convicted of serious criminal acts and as long as they are productive citizens and are not abusing the immigration policy or the funding Canada puts aside for immigrants, (housing, food, jobs etc).
@93QY49J3yrs3Y
Yes, we should accept the 10,000 refugees but we should make sure to do a background check and most likely allow families.
@93QS5HZ3yrs3Y
no we should help their country be better rather than brining them here.
@93HQPK63yrs3Y
Depending on the economic and social circumstance in a given year, we can decide if we can afford to take in refugees. Extensive background checks must be done on anyone entering the country to ensure that they have no terrorist connections.
@93CNC6CConservative3yrs3Y
We should only accept a certain about of immigrants, because now the cities and the country in general is going to be filled with immigrants.
@93BG3X23yrs3Y
Yes, if they are willing to integrate into our culture and values, etc.
@93B6FPP3yrs3Y
Yes, only the 10,000 stated (only families no single Muslim males)
@939RLGL3yrs3Y
Until we can take care of our own citizens, I'd rather we halt immigration entirely.
@939N3JM3yrs3Y
We have to stop for now since we have a lot already and we need to help ourselves first.
@939MRM73yrs3Y
If they are checked up sure they can come
@939MBL63yrs3Y
Maybe depending on population growtb
@9394FLF3yrs3Y
We should be helping our own people first before helping other people from other countries.
@938YBV73yrs3Y
Yes, but to other provinces other than Ontario as the market it crazy here
@938RLQP3yrs3Y
Yes but not more then we can handle
@936YP663yrs3Y
Not only from Syria from other country too
they should accept other refugees to from other country too.
@933NP893yrs3Y
Yes, but only after extensive background checks. Be productive member of society and not use social assistance program for a long period of time
@933G8DZ3yrs3Y
yes but light background check if travelling alone
@92Z3Y823yrs3Y
How about we take care of Canadas homeless , and poor like people on odsp before adding more refugees
@92YW47R3yrs3Y
@92YRTYTConservative3yrs3Y
They should be allow as long as they are doing things( enjoyment or schooling)
@92XKMQM3yrs3Y
Background check before they come and then when it is safe to go back then they should go back.
@92WM9XQ3yrs3Y
Yes, but we should prioritize our veterans first.
@92QZGM43yrs3Y
Yes, but send them back once there it is safe to do so
Yes, but we should prioritise families and accept more than the proposed 10,000
@92GRS2N3yrs3Y
Yes, until we have a firmer graspe on the current immigration application backlog
@8ZTZ8S93yrs3Y
yes, but they should go back when it is safe to do so
Yes but only after a vetting process to ensure no terrorist affiliation and enroll them into a program to integrate them into canadian society
@8Z87ZRQ3yrs3Y
Yes, but ensure they respect human/animal rights. NO ENTRY to sexists, homophobes, transphobes, child/animal abusers.
@8Z7JZ3P3yrs3Y
Yes, but have to pass background check first
@8YRX8JV3yrs3Y
No, not until we fix our issues with our citizens
@8YLRMLRNew Democratic3yrs3Y
no, because Canada already allowed to settle the number of refugees they promised.
@8XR8YQ83yrs3Y
Yes but to a certain degree
@8WYBHWP3yrs3Y
Yes, but these refugees should only be allowed to move into the more rural provinces and territories instead of the big cities.
@NewDemocratGirl3yrs3Y
Yes. But we need to start to put measures into place to be able to house and help these people. We already have a homelessness crisis in Canada. By 2050 there will be up to 2 billion people displaced from climate change ALONE. Let's not make the same mistakes we did with Covid and leave it till the last minute to get prepared. Tick Tock. We have 28 years.
If we are in a position to help others, then we can accept more refugees. We should not accept more if we have canadians in need of help.
@8W4KBLY4yrs4Y
We should... we... they... well... ... It's good to save those people from their wasteland of a country. but... we can only hold so many people in the same country and be so stable, and/or able to manage them all.
@8VZ92KP4yrs4Y
Add a controlled amount with background checks
@8VZ3PQS4yrs4Y
as long as they wont change the world in a bad way
@8VY4CSM4yrs4Y
We can continue to allow refugees in, but when the situation has stabilized, I think we should cease allowing most migrants in.
@8VXX8WG4yrs4Y
@8VXDZ7M4yrs4Y
Yes. with the foster family approach they used to have
@8VX7CZD4yrs4Y
Should only expect if the country is no longer in debt
@8VWD65W4yrs4Y
Yes, but only if they have the means to get by without living off government handouts.
@8VW9Z8T4yrs4Y
yes but we should spread them out across Canada, not populated city’s such as Toronto and Vancouver.
@8VW4J8HConservative4yrs4Y
We should focus on ourselves first.
@8VVQXYW4yrs4Y
Support our own veterans and homeless first
Too many refugees already. Take care of the poor people, and homless people and the Vets first.
@8VVQ3CH4yrs4Y
Yes but we need to handle the current issue of Canadians who have lost jobs/ work due to covid and once we have handled that then we can bring in refugees
@8VVMM9D4yrs4Y
Hard workers who make an impact on society
@8VVK6Y84yrs4Y
Yes but only to the point where we won’t over populate cities
@8VVFBG34yrs4Y
They should be screened like any other refugee should be
@8VV99634yrs4Y
My grandparents had to jump threw hoops to get allowed into Canada when they came from Europe my grandfather being an electrical engineer so everyone should have to go threw the same process
@8VV2P574yrs4Y
Yes, but only after extensive background checks and continuous monitoring before they're accepted to ensure they have no terrorist connections
@8VTXHZX4yrs4Y
I feel that it has to receive from any country not only Syria is at war or has fights, in Mexico there are many cartels every day, every hour they are fighting against other cartels, it can also happen in different countries so they should accept from any country
@8VTV2J24yrs4Y
seeing as this is an unfair question because there is no winning in any answer, i have no opinion
@8VTNVXJ4yrs4Y
not right now because of covid
@8VTJPY84yrs4Y
yes, only if it is not empeding on our stability as a country (healthcare, mental health, housing, environment) and is done to ensure safety of our country.
@8VTFFXF4yrs4Y
Yes, but make sure there is funding and help in place for the Canadians living here already. Aid for the homeless.
@8VTFXW74yrs4Y
we should accept only those that want to work and help re build our economy
@8VTCRZC4yrs4Y
Yes, but less and after we have taken care of Canadians (like getting indigenous communities clean drinking water where they don’t have any) if we can’t take care of current Canadians, we shouldn’t be letting immigrants in
@8VT6R7Q4yrs4Y
Yes, but only after extensive background checks and continuous monitoring to ensure they have no terrorist connections. Also focusing on families and reuniting families currently split apart.
@8VT5KG84yrs4Y
Yes, but only if due diligence and scrutiny are applied to each of the applicants. And a high level security screening, background & criminal checks are conducted.
@8VT4FJB4yrs4Y
No, the people of the respective country be treated better by helping the country prosper and not by adopting their children.
@8VSYMFJ4yrs4Y
Just a extensive background to ensure the safety of both Canadians and Syrian refugees. I find the that the constant monitoring is unnecessary and can be seen as racial profiling.
