Liberal Upset: Bruce Fanjoy Unseats Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre in Carleton
While I'm not under any illusions that Fanjoy is suddenly going to champion real leftist policies, at least this shakes things up and shows that people are rejecting the status quo of Conservative austerity and fear-mongering. Poilievre was no friend to working people—he's always been about cutting social programs and catering to the wealthy. Now, with this upset, maybe the Liberals will feel more pressure to move left and actually address things like affordable housing, healthcare expansion, and climate justice. Of course, I’d love to see an NDP or Green win here instead, but this result still sends a message that voters want change. It’ll be interesting to see if the Conservatives learn anything or just double down on their usual playbook. At the very least, it’s a reminder that no seat is truly safe and that people power can surprise even the biggest political names.
