Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is facing a critical leadership vote as members of the United Conservative Party (UCP) gather to decide her political future. Despite leading the party to a majority victory just 17 months ago, Smith's leadership is under scrutiny, with some members pushing for her removal. A rift has formed between her government and grassroots factions, including a new group called the '1905 Committee,' which has emerged as a vocal critic. The outcome of this vote could significantly impact the direction of Alberta's governing party and Smith's political career.

Danielle Smith's leadership being on thin ice just shows how out of touch the UCP is with the needs of regular Albertans—maybe it's time for a real progressive alternative.

Honestly, this is just another example of how political parties end up straying from their principles. Danielle Smith should be focusing on reducing government interference and letting Albertans live their lives, but instead we’ve got backroom drama and power struggles. The UCP needs to get back to its roots and stop trying to appease every critic. At the end of the day, less government and more freedom should be the priority, not internal politics.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith faces possible revolt, firing as UCP members vote on her future
They’ll also be voting on the leadership of their Premier Danielle Smith. Conceivably, the premier could be fired by her party despite leading it to a majority victory just 17 month ago. Some UCP members think she will be.
