This has lead to a fractured society and individuals with a weak sense of cultural belonging. In turn, aboriginals are less likely to succeed in school, work and family life. Reparations must be made, but not in the form of money. Is it wiser to give a homeless person 20$ or to give them a warm meal? Casinos, cigarette stands and gun shops will not help aboriginals regain their sense of culture. Instead of handouts, the government should work with native leaders to determine investments that will benefit them the most. Rather than give a nation a lump sum and have them do with it what they will, a plan to build schools and other necessary societal infrastructure should be agreed upon and executed.
