Upon opting out, that person gets a commuted value of all past contributions into CPP (both employee and employer portions. If opting out of OAS, which can only happen at age 65 or later, then pay a discounted amount immediately that the person can invest. The discounted amount will depend on age at the time of opting out of either plan. If opting out of CPP before age 65, then reduce taxation on the individual by 5% if the income tax has not already been abolished.
